We are saddened to say goodbye to our dear friend, Oscar-winning actress Eva Marie Saint. One of the last surviving stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age, we’ll forever be grateful for unforgettable contributions to cinema, her generosity and her humor. Our thoughts are with her loved ones.

Voyager 1 is running on less memory than a single photo in your camera roll—69 KB. Its data is saved to an 8-track tape & software was developed when "the cloud" was in the sky. NASA sends commands and the old thing answers. And yet your brand new laptop freezes because you opened too many tabs.

The other day, at the public radio station where I work, a co-worker ran down the hall frantically shouting that the station was “glitching.” It was “It’s Gonna Rain,” played in excerpt on a Fresh Air episode honoring Reich.

Squirrels on suicide missions have knocked out power to Castle Rock, Colorado twice this week. Our investigation has revealed a century of squirrel attacks covered up by the pro-squirrel media.

Which brings to mind the Unholy Trio attacking Public Enemy in a woodshed. Results are more than satisfying.

What a voice. Vale, Cassandra Wilson.

We're deeply saddened by the news that Cassandra Wilson has passed away. One of the most distinctive voices in modern jazz, Cassandra wove an alluring tapestry of jazz, blues, folk, and R&B into a singular sound that opened up new avenues of expression for vocal jazz: bluenote.lnk.to/CassandraWil...

On Monday, Aug 31 at 3pm PT, I'll have a live virtual office hour focused solely on potential for an East Pacific tropical storm or hurricane to affect California next weekend (mostly likely indirectly, but with slight chance of a more direct approach). .

David Sylvian vinyl is out. Gone to Earth (1986) feels like music dissolving into mist. The first half gives you haunting art rock songs, with Sylvian’s voice surrounded by Robert Fripp, Bill Nelson & Steve Jansen, the second drifts into spacious, dreamlike ambient landscapes. #NowPlaying #Vinyl 🎧

Cloudy in Ventura, too. Steve Roach is always a good alternative. (I’ve been zonking to Drone Zone nearly every night for 15+ years, so this is most welcome.)

In honor of tonight's Lunar Eclipse, which we can't see in SF due to all the clouds, we're playing Steve Roach's Blood Moon Rising suite for the next 5 hours on Drone Zone somafm.com/dronezone

I recommend to you this podcast series about Dolly Parton by Jad Abumrad (creator of Radio Lab). You may ask: how did a MacArthur Award winning pub radio guy meet Dolly? Because she personally funded his father's vaccine research, that's how. www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/dol...
