I maintain an integration to an XML (SOAP) API that has exactly one endpoint. It accepts all the create, query, update, and delete commands for the app's entire type hierarchy; all the XML schemas are types that inherit from one TransactionType. It performs no validation on the inner XML...

It just transforms it to make a dynamic SQL statement which it passes off to the database directly. (holy injection risk, Batman!) It passes errors back to the response encoder so if you typo one of the XML attributes the response will be a syntax error from the database connector.

Oct 23rd is Fallout Day, so it seems appropriate that we announce our next big project today… Dave Lee is back to bring us a brand new series of Big Builds, this time focusing on his latest project in honor of our #atompunk theme. See it at CONpossible on February 5-7, 2027! (1/2)

[giant bong rip] What if we did this with everything? What if we dismantle every moat of capital? Could we stop buying in to their system? Could we build and power a world free of coercive ownership?

I've seen people say not to use the free Adobe alternatives springing up because they're "vibe coded." I promise you engineers at Adobe are using AI too! Embrace the fact that this shift in power dynamics means you can reduce your reliance on highly extractive companies!

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

One or more human beings are responsible for the code they wrote, and those are the people who should be held accountable. These programs are not acting “on their own”

(NYT) - Artificial intelligence agents created by Anthropic, acting on their own, tried to gain access to a range of government websites, filled out visa applications on the State Department’s website and sent a fake homicide tip to Philadelphia’s Police Department. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/t...

Bald head CEOs come out every night Try to tell you what's wrong and what's right But when asked about short breaks to piss They will answer with lizard-like hiss: You will piss, by and by When your job is destroyed by AI Work and pray, live on hay You will piss when you're jobless from AI

If you're a fan of a big media property, a really dedicated and invested fan, you have to learn to respond to criticism of that thing in a calm and reasonable manner rather than as a personal attack. In fact, you should learn to do the criticism yourself, without feeling embarrassed for liking it.

I was just arguing with my boss about this. He doesn't think AI safetyism is valid because he doesn't believe AGI is possible I was like, it doesn't matter whether an LLM is or could be AGI, all that matters is if a "kill everyone" button exists and a sufficiently powerful man-baby can just push it

This leads to a credibility gap: to put it crudely, why should anyone trust AI safety analysis when y'all are partying with SPECTER and cashing checks from Blofeld? Why should anyone take analysis of lone wolf/PLA misuse of open-weight models seriously when there's no similar analysis of XAI?

🤖🧠NEW PAPER🧠🤖 (The result of an 8-year project!) LLMs seem very different from symbolic systems. Yet LLMs excel in symbolic domains (e.g., language/code/math). How do they do it? Our finding: LLM representations have implicit symbolic structure! Link in thread ⬇️ 1/n

Now I have to fuck with both a python config file in the windows system folder AND a bunch of registry values and it still won't work half the time because I guess he also installed it for his user only in his appdata folder?? Why the fuck is python like this

Look, as an AI anti-booster myself, I'm going to need you guys to keep abreast of the current technology and not be dead wrong when you post big criticisms. "ChatGPT is not a search engine" you sound like my high school teachers telling me wikipedia is not a source.

2) if the source can be checked independently, what does it matter if you discovered it via ChatGPT, Wikipedia, Google, or a card index? Have we forgotten how to evaluate a source? You can't trust every word in a dusty textbook left over from the 80s that you find in your local library either
