Same reservations as Alien Archeologist - this is a *lovely* game, pleasant to interact with, great textures and interactivity... and I could easily lose days in it. One of the kind of games that requires me to set playtime limits for myself.

Rimworld meets Dungeon Keeper. Very, very strong vibes of both (particularly Rimworld, aesthetically and in gameplay), which isn't a bad thing. Strong tower defense elements, which aren't usually my jam, but the rest looks potentially compelling enough. Gonna keep an eye on it.

Tired, tired, tired. I hope after I get past tomorrow evening's "show up to try to convince landlords not to evict us all" meeting my stress level will at least start to reduce slightly. Probably not. But I can hope.

Investigation games always catch my eye. This one has a gorgeously unique art style, and after a little poking around the multi-part UI started to win me over too. Use an echo-glass (a magnifying glass with a view into the past) to solve cult-related cases. I'll be keeping an eye out for this one.

store.steampowered.comInkblood Demo on SteamYou're an Inquisitor following a trail of death. A cult is at work, your predecessor has vanished, and the region teeters on the edge of chaos. Find the truth. Uphold the Inquisition. Do not fail.

Heavily inspired by Morrowind, Planescape and 70's Star Wars with a dash of bronze age and art nouveau. The mood? Conan after Conan: all the heroes are dead and this is the world they built. That's OMIOS URES, my weird fantasy RPG. And it's FREE on itch.io! matheusgraef.itch.io/omios-ures

It is so damn depressing every time I discover someone I know or work with has decided genAI is awesome. Makes me ill. I'd say I need to find some other field to get into, but I *like* my work... and what isn't contaminated these days?

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

*Tentative* wishlist on this one, not because it isn't fun - rather, because it's the kind of game that will absolutely eat my life. I spent several hours in just the demo. ... and I still want to see what the next artifact is.... I'll have to time-limit myself when I pick it up.

Oh. OH. Lula won? I haven't been following the Brasil election closely, but last I'd read that sounded... like it wasn't going well. Man. That is just.... I am so very glad for them. Whew.

That moment when you're reading a reply to your post that somehow makes no sense, and you're wondering if you just need more coffee, because it sounds like they *totally* misread it and why are they even asking— —and then see the bot icon. Go away, you jumped-up autocorrect. I only talk to people.

I love when a computer game just goes completely off the rails. Playing Divinity 2 this evening, and we got to a new town, where we were immediately confronted by a magister who went "Oh hey you're those escaped prisoners, we won't be having any of that," and we said "Oh no we're not going back--" 🧵

All the dwarves are kung fu fighting. They're all buffing each other left and right and throwing knives. Somebody cast Infect and now the pair of bulls are diseased. The golden retriever bit one magister in the backside. It is absolute madness and it was so late we have paused in the middle. 🧵

We're going to have to pick it up tomorrow because the rounds were just taking THAT long to finish. I have no idea what exactly just happened but we were weeping with laughter by the time we stopped for the evening. The magisters are NOT winning this.

And we've done this dance before, it just means we fight, they die, and we move on. Except, dear reader, that is not what happened. Or rather, it is, but the first thing that happens is THE ENTIRE TOWN leaps into the fight. On our behalf. And I mean all of them. Including the COWS. 🧵

We are now fighting six magisters and magister-adjacent enemies. The town crier, for some reason, was the instant target of *all* of their antagonism and died in three hits. The picnickers having a nice romantic meal were set upon by a Silent Watcher, and they promptly set him on fire. 🧵

My main complaint about this one is it just that isn't done yet. Lovely aesthetic, smooth controls, good voice acting, eminently playable. Feels like some of the good Genesis games, sleek and user-friendly. Would've been the fastest wishlist yet if I hadn't been busy playing it.

I loved Dredge, and this looks to be a grittier, more survival- and crafting-oriented variation on the theme. Love the aesthetic, cartoony grossness, lots of gloop and tentacles. The voice acting (often the part I don't like) is smooth and full of character.

I'm a rockhound, so this instantly went to the top of the list to test, and I'm delighted that it's fun so far. Fiddly chipping away with a chisel to find the gems - something I haven't had a chance to do in real life for quite a while now. Definitely anticipating seeing how this one shakes out.

Next up in my occasional series: "Can it swim?" BATS!🦇🏊 As video captured by Rob Mackereth (@mack2526 on IG) in the Lake District, England shows, bats can indeed swim. In fact, they're pretty good little swimmers. But there's an asterisk. Also, standard disclaimer: do not handle downed bats!

Unless Slay the Princess is lying to me (a distinct possibility!) I think I'm about to finally finish it properly. This game has not at all been what I expected (complimentary). I mostly just bought it for the narration by Jonathan Sims. Which was a good call, but the gameplay is also a win.

Saturday souping. Bunch of veg needed using and I'd just finished a batch of bone stock, so—barley, red potatoes, chayote, Mexican zucchini, mirepoix, garlic, tomatillos, cumin seed, Mexican oregano, cilantro, chicken powder. A one-pot-meal balance to the spatzle madness. 😆

This footage shot by a tourist aboard Jacksonville Boat Charters near Amelia Island, Florida shows a leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea). At 2000 lbs (900 kg) & 7 ft long (2.1 m) they're the largest turtles & indeed one of the heaviest extant reptiles on Earth. Here There Be Monsters!

Et voila: Brightwood Vintner's Chicken with a side of Disaster Spätzle. Delicious, 10/10. But... lessons were learned. 😅🧵

Also, spatzle-making requires all four hands simultaneously. Being somewhat lacking in the requisite four hands, I had quite the adventure.

Scientific experiment verifies: This colander's holes are not big enough for spatzle-making unless you really want something that looks more like a bowl of Prince Rupert's drops.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Hmmmm. Might've been the standing arcade version of Mario Bros at the little hardware store by our grocery. Or Pac-Man at a restaurant where we met my grandparents for lunch. But probably it was a Texas Instruments game on our first home console, likely Hunt the Wumpus or a forgotten learning game.

Name the first videogame you played.

So the peopling wasn't bad. (Also two dogs, one cat.) Does not really make me super optimistic, though. Sounds like the property owners are doing their damndest to gentrify us out of existence, the last affordable rental property in the entire immediate area. Sigh. I am too tired for all of this.

One more meeting Wednesday, an official all-hands-on-deck we-need-to-outnumber-them. Whee. The local homeowners were wooed. We were not even told anything was happening until someone got the word out. Communications have been shit and lots of smoke being blown.

About to dive into trying to explain a disaster plugin to the folks providing data for it. This evening, I have to attend a meeting with neighbors trying to prevent the city from rezoning us out of our homes. *Then* attend a writing chat where I tell my friends I'm leaving the group. Breathing.

Re the last repost, one of the things that has stuck from my time in the behavioural science snake oil mines was an experiment where if people planned a week of movie viewing they would pick a mix of genres, some 'highbrow' etc but if they picked day to day it was all the same stuff

in my talk today, as an example of the strange things you can do in comics given their sequential but also spatial/simultaneous nature, I included this gonzo panel from 1950s Batman, which I just love in all its weirdness! Yes, I have more intentionally clever examples, but something about this...
