The words that first come to my mind right now are ones like 'conductor,' 'engineer,' 'stationmaster.' And also a deep sense of respect, a deep sense of pride, and a deep sense of shame.

Pursued by ICE, some Haitians in the U.S. are fleeing across the northern border to seek safety in Canada, @nickmiroff.bsky.social reports. He travels the secret routes through forests that some are taking to escape deportation:

Hey, @gregdoucette.bsky.social - you always seemed to care about being dapper for court. How would you feel were a judge to start a hearing with this? bsky.app/profile/mari...

Court hearing just started re: DOGE hostile takeover of US Institute of Peace (USIP) and attempt to transfer independent agency’s building deed to GSA. Judge Beryl Howell says to US attorney: “You’re wearing your jacket today. Nice to see you dressed for court! I notice things like that.”

This complaint is both horrific (in the subject it covers) and masterful (in the presentation thereof). Also, Scarlett is overwhelmingly brave to move forward on this. I wish her whatever peace she is able to find.

After some thought, The Great Gonzo, Sweetums, Statler and Waldorf. Sam the Eagle was up there - especially with everyone else reminding me of him, but I had to go with those three. Animal was also in close contention.

saw a tiktok about how your top three favorite muppets reveal a great deal about your personality and on reflection about my favorites — fozzie, sam the eagle, statler and wardolf (they count as one) — this is absolutely true

Ohio has basically defacto banned trans healthcare for adults using a similar strategy to why there was only a handful of abortion clinics in the entire Midwest before the Dobbs decision (TRAP laws) cis people please repost this so this info doesn't get stuck in the queer social bubble

Breaking: Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) bans, by executive order, gender-affirming surgery for minors, effective immediately. The move followed last week's veto of a broader bill. He also announced two proposed rules that will apply to all care, including adults. substack.com/profile/2269...

IT Gripe: Last night someone phished a bunch of staff at work via sharing a Google Doc to them. This wasn’t a fake share - the email came from Google like shares normally do. Workspace Admin will let me block emails from a specific external account, but not sharing files from a specific account.

Yes, I could block sharing from *all* external users, but that would unacceptably restrict collaboration efforts with outside people that are legitimate. Why isn’t there a single account block? Especially when *users* can do it for themselves, but admins can’t.

Can you imagine if motivation has a visible gauge like health bars in games? Jen should cook dinner 🟩🟩🟩🟩 Oops you have no onion for the recipe you were going to make 🟩🟩🟩 And the pot you need is dirty 🟥🟥 You're extremely hungry 🟥

I’m so sick of this happening again and again, and this is making me tear up repeatedly since reading it.

The cover of Thursday's The Daily Tar Heel, a striking response by the student-run paper to an on-campus lockdown and killing. (more twitter.com/caitlyn_yaed...)

Software joys: three users with common permissions, one can add and edit time entries, one can add but not edit, and the third can edit but not add. Glad I’m just the test dummy and not the one who has to fix it.

The 4th of July. Time to spend the afternoon and evening with the part of my family that wants to socialize with me, but drives me nuts. Cook good food on the grill, but then share an awkward dinner of forced conversation. Then wait for the fireworks so the kids don’t miss out.

If it weren’t for the kids, I’d rather be at home with my friends online and actually having a good time. But this is also the only reliable source of occasional child care we have, so we have to keep them happy if we ever want to have plans.

You are up to date.
