Pro-environmental behavior is often used as a broad โ˜‚๏ธ term under which different behaviors (e.g., mitigation, conservation, restoration), sustainability approaches (e.g., sufficiency, efficiency), types of behavior, domains (e.g., mobility, energy, food), and their antecedents are summarized.

This eerie mosaic depicts Winter holding a bare branch and wearing a birrus (a hooded cloak used extensively in ancient Britain). Its use of cool blue colours, the seeming melancholy in the face & the sparse pale background really conveys the cold barrenness of winter. ๐Ÿ›๏ธBignor ๐Ÿ“ท mine #MosaicMonday

I always had the vague feeling that Scientific Reports and Nature Communications are mainly APC business models. A paper estimated the total APC for gold/hybrid Open Access per journal 2015โ€“2018: doi.org/10.1162/qss_... Surprise, surprise - there are 2 outliers at the top๐Ÿ˜

I just rewatched Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) because my wife had never seen it. It has been remastered and upscaled to be beautiful and crisp in high-def. Honestly, it looks amazing. The props, costumes, and sets still blow me away.

Paris invested heavily in bike infrastructure and saw a massive increase in ridership. Does anyone know about research on where the willingness and investment came from, e.g., attitudes, priorities, city-level meetings, national conversations? How do such changes in policy and infrastructure emerge?

Are female economists treated differently than males in academic seminars? These authors wanted to know whether gender shapes how scholars are treated when presenting research. So they built a massive dataset of 2,000+ economics seminars, job talks, and conference presentations from 2019โ€“2023...

theconversation.com/we-got-lazy-... Lots of debate in NL right now about our wealth tax and the changing rules. There's uncertainty and I think that also causes distaste. If it was just 'the way we do it' it would be easier to be proud of what values and benefits it supports, maybe?

theconversation.comโ€˜We got lazy and complacentโ€™: Swedish pensioners explain how abolishing the wealth tax changed their countryFor some Swedes, the question isnโ€™t simply whether a wealth tax works, but what kind of society has been lost with its abolition.

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Science in Resistance: The scientist rebellion for climate justice by Fernando Racimo. Maybe not very surprising, after all, it was reading a paper by Fernando that made me join Scientist Rebellion three years ago. ๐Ÿงต

My inbox is a de-facto to-do list. When using Outlook, an email feature I really miss, was it in gmail in the past?, was to snooze a message into the future UNLESS I receive a response in the meantime. That way, items don't disappear off the list, and I don't get extra messages.

nrc.nlColumn | Op zoek naar licht in een tunnel van zouteloos lauwgrijsDe winter houdt Nederland in een drievoudige houdgreep. Hoe kun je daaraan een positieve draai geven, als weerman?

New paper: real water-use behavior change using multi-year, metered data (19k homes). Not attitudes, identity, efficacy, or persuasion. We manipulated delivery mode + frequency of home use reports โ†’ ~2% reduction (~7 L/day here). 1/3

Heterogeneity shows where the behavior was plastic vs constrained. In sum: situational affordances were sufficient; motivation/personality/values not needed; small effects, but real and scalable. Suggested for: applied behavioral scientists, policy designers, skeptics of self-report. 2/3

Started a talk this week by asking how many in the audience had read Merchants of Doubt. No one had. So here's lead author Naomi Oreskes summarising the book. One take-away: science and unregulated markets are not compatible because science points out market failures youtu.be/GXRuxuTyrxo?...
