I suspect some “AI productivity gains” in tech are actually people being overworked in a bad job market. Uber laid off 3,300 workers this month after employees complained about too much coordination. Its CEO also says employees should answer weekend emails and “don’t come here if you want to coast”

Didn’t have the greatest summer gardening season this year, but I’m still really proud of this monster globe basil plant I grew from seed. Amazing what happens when you prune something correctly.

The doomsday stuff from AI researchers is so annoying. It’s like hey the weirdest guy you know keeps saying he’s going to blow up your house. He won’t show you the bomb. Every time he does this he gets another $1,000. But also he might do it. Wyd?

fwiw this is terrible survey design if what you are trying to capture are addictive or counterproductive behaviors. it makes no distinction, for example, between a guy who spends a few hours each week playing madden and a guy who has no other interests other than obsessive gaming

guy who's in the 2% because he's too busy smoking crack

@wmata.com You really have to do something about these D60 buses stopping for breaks in front of stop 1001220 at Franklin Park. They block the D24, A49, and D6X buses from being able to pull over or even see people waiting and they skip the stop. It’s ridiculous

SCOOP: 404 Media placed a tracking device in a shipment of rare books to see which AI company was buying it. What did we find? It ended up at an Amazon facility where Amazon scans and destroys books. Yes. This is literally the logo outside the Amazon warehouse door. Read now:

Furious that Chris Nolan would disregard historical accuracy in adapting The Odyssey by making a "movie" with "cameras" instead of memorizing the entire story and then going on a nationwide tour to sing it to us while tripping on ergotized barley

What people unfamiliar with UK culture don't realize is that there's a Dalek hidden inside this seemingly benign "Binface" and its policies all boil down to EXTERMINATE

In case you missed it, here's Count Binface's appearance on the BBC this morning.

*dipping a coffee mug into the reflecting pool, then turning to cameras* RFK Jr.: It's perfectly fine. It tastes like grass Trump: I think you've crossed a line for me

My tomatoes have gotten out of hand. I have spent so long trying to pull all of the suckers off of them and yet they keep growing like crazy. This is the first year I’ve had this problem to this kind of degree. #gardening

the most surreal thing about this era of open yelling about masculinity is that, if you grew up anything like I did, you were exposed to several sets of standards of masculinity and would be hard pressed to identify which of them the Paxtons and Millers of the world are living up to

Soon after winning the Texas Republican Senate primary runoff, Ken Paxton attacked Democratic nominee, state Rep. James Talarico as "too low-T for Texas," putting manhood front and center in the race. n.pr/4a5uElp

Off to a decent start at the community garden here in DC - garlic scapes just starting to appear, tomatoes with plenty of blossoms, and I have three surviving pepper plants by the looks of it. Echinacea, as always, is invincible, and my blackberries are just starting to ripen. #gardening

This 1952 memo from the Pentagon UFO files is superb There is no point preparing for aliens ‘because no one of consequence is going to take this rubbish seriously unless it happens. At that point, our policy will be determined in the traditional manner of grand panic.’ 🤣 www.war.gov/medialink/uf...

I had a physical recently and the doctor did the cognitive test and I started laughing repeating the words back because I was thinking about Trump being so proud of herself and the doctor was like yeah everyone does that now.

@wmata.com You need to do something about the chaotic situation at bus stop 1001220 at Franklin Park. Regularly there is a line of D60 and D6X buses backed up there and the D24 drivers just drive right past and don’t stop or bother to pull over when there are people waiting. It happened again today!

Quite a flex to turn up at the presidential palace, get him to confirm you as prime minister, call him unfit to serve with no moral authority, tell him to resign, and then pose for a picture

the actual DOGE

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.
