Literally every single GOP ad I've seen uses the words "sex change for children", which really hits home that they're the ones obsessed with that.

Andrew Lawrence@ndrew.bsky.social

it feels like its kinda being ignored but outside a couple outliers the only thing republicans are running on in the midterms is that theyre white and democrats arent

Parents are poisoning their children because they know what's best for them. People are selling poison to children because it comes from an animal, how can it be dangerous, it's natural? The state is abdicating its prerogative to regulate food because the cranks cannot stop poisoning children.

It's wild that the techies have horseshoed ALL the way around to doomsday preppers and apocalyptic evangelicals

I keep trying to think of any historical example where a given technology's PROMOTERS AND TRUE BELIEVERS were like 'we are absolutely going to ruin your fucking life so be prepared like it's the end of the world'

I would bet so much money that this all has to do with a frat thing

Future Army aviators will learn to fly using contractor-owned equipment under civilian instructors as part of a contract worth up to $10 billion to overhaul the service’s helicopter flight school.

"Temperature swings between negative 300 degrees and above boiling can hit a single piece of equipment simultaneously." Negative 300 degrees is colder than absolute zero. Unless they mean Fahrenheit; but we shouldn't assume that, because the whole article is devoid of units.

Once again "there's aluminum" is not a strong argument for going to the Moon. If there were bars of gold on the Moon's surface, it would not be worth it to get them. Why don't these articles ever talk to an economist? Or just a boring person? fortune.com/2026/08/06/p...

It would be interesting to know how many of the ships "transiting" the Strait of Hormuz are outbound vs inbound. I can readily believe ships that have been bottled up for months are eager to escape if they can find a window. Not sure how many are willingly heading back in.

cannot wait for the gop midterm convention on national tv where every republican in a competitive race is forced to pledge an oath of loyalty to a demented sex criminal polling at 30% approval

Trump absolutely cratering by many metrics in new CNN poll: 66% say he puts himself over country 61% disapprove of ballroom, arch, etc 57% say lacks sharpness to serve (!) 73% say he's out of touch w/regular people (!!) His personalist project is over. New piece: newrepublic.com/article/2137...

My grandfather got run over by a trolley in 50s era San Francisco. Old cablecars were quite the deathtrap. They could only slow down on hills by a lever gripping the (already moving) cable, and the cable or lever would snap and send a runaway train down Filbert Street.

Hank Green@hankgreen.bsky.social

What I’ve learned from the trolley problem is that people getting hit by trolleys must have been a pretty big problem back in the day.

Homeboy Alfred Loewenstein'd her.

A pilot jumped out of the door of a moving plane to his death, leaving the student he was teaching to fly to land the aircraft by herself. The student said he told her, "You know what you have to do, carry on."

This is the retail use case! I will happily pay $20 nonrecurring for premium model access if it means I get an Android alarm clock app that works EXACTLY how I want! I don't have to wait on the market realizing that what I want is a hyperspecific alarm clock feature that isn't profitable!

I know lots of people remain skeptical of agentic coding, but I swear, for personalized software that doesn't leave you reliant on someone else not enshittifying... it's pretty nice.

I like the term because it is extremely effective for demonstrating to MAGA voters why Trump sucks, even if it's obviously flawed policy-wise

Patrick Chovanec@prchovanec.bsky.social

As an aside, I hate the normalization of the slogan "America First". The fact that Trump has popularized it is a daily reminder of how ignorant of history most Americans are.

If the uptick is from @flightradar24.com, then we're not seeing an uptick in ISR flights. What we're seeing is an uptick in ISR flights under orders to intentionally leave on devices like transponders and ADS-B. The total amount of flights including those we can't see is probably unchanged.

DeSantis also says datacenters are unpopular on both the left and the right. If you have followed this guy's career, this is something worth taking note of. He would not be coming out early like this if he didn't see a big political problem coming down the road.

Oh I see. He meant guiding like in the directional, inspirational sense. Like the North Star.

At best they knew about the threat and Trump insisted on going anyway. Much beyond that is rather unfathomable.

Patrick Chovanec@prchovanec.bsky.social

Most convincing argument I’ve heard so far: if this assassination attempt was “staged”, guaranteed some White House insider wouldn’t have been able to resist picking up an easy payday by betting on it online. No evidence this happened, ergo it was real.
