I have great memories of playing this with my much younger brother. I was hopelessly bad and it would just smash buttons and hope for the best. He always demolished me. You will have such fun with them though!

"Block, grab, and throw" was my "aha" moment, especially against young spammers. Also, just figuring out how to do basic movement around the stage with a given character can be helpful to practice.

I have watched my daughter play this game so many times and I still cannot for the life of me figure out what is even happening on the screen, much less which character is winning. It just looks like sheer visual chaos to me!

This is not possible. Children’s eyes are just so much quicker than ours. However, my teenage son advises you do the following: “1. Play ‘Mr. Game & Watch’ 2. Hold shield 3. When they hit the shield, up special (Up B) 4. Juggle with neutral air and up air. This is all you need to know.”

Press A at the same time as -> on the joystick for the strongest, no-delay attack. The quicker and better you time it the stronger it is, so you can get really good at nailing them

Use the right thumb stick to do a lot of your basic attacking, shortcut to harder hitting smash attacks and easy to fling in any direction

You don’t need tips. You need hours. You’ve already lost.

I found some success with the ease of playing as Ken or ryu.

Always beating them is fine, but the real skill is making it look like you're beating them then losing.
