Publishers Weekly called today, asking questions about the Must Read Magazines contract situation. Did a 38-minute interview w/ them. This story isn’t going away. ICYMI: I’ll fight just as hard for the rights of the kid entering the industry as I will for my own. Don’t f**k w/ artists’ rights.

more bits! as you can see, I enjoy dramatic lighting and textured contrast :-) Rishi, for Apocalypse Keys with @evilhat.bsky.social Banquet Hall for @farhorizonscoop.bsky.social 'Guide to Mysterious Locations' charcoal, paint, photo manip (banquet hall) & digital colour. #art #ttrpg

Incredible weekend at @mayhemfilmfestival.bsky.social as always. Highlights include the gnarly, class-conscious French slasher film Kraken (or No Way Down), the oddly heartwarming Indonesian supernatural gorefest Ghost in the Cell, and the hilarious New Zealand body horror Mum, I'm Alien Pregnant.

Finished up Wickhills by @premeemohamed.com and it's as good as advertised. I think it's her best book yet.

As a one person game maker: AI can eat shit. There's SO MUCH ROYALTY FREE STUFF OUT THERE. Or people who really awesome and do things because they believe in you, or for small dollars because we all love creativity. "I'm just one guy" so was the dude that made Stardew "I'm just one guy" is BS

Ah man 🥹 look at us... But also look at all the other great mags discussed here including APWOT!!! We've not been shy in discussing that @apwot.bsky.social was an influence on us. And it goes beyond invoking that mag's spirit and beauty. APWOTs founder, Caspian, was instrumental in issue 01.

ANCIENT ELK something from the archives, a tribute to the ancient giant elk that once roamed Ireland. Wanted to give this a hint of illuminated manuscript style decorative linework, inspired by another ancient Irish treasure, the Book Of Kells 🖼️🦌 www.inprnt.com/gallery/carl... #art #magic #nature

Closeup! wanted these to look like a vintage pc game loading screen, but with hand tinted colour like the film- so grimy halftone print plus hand drawing! The blue (imaginary deluxe version of game!) has a gold layer underneath, with cut out bits to show that on the bike light trails. #art #tron

What makes a monster? I’m looking for reprints for Grimdark Magazine: morally gray SFF, under 10,000 words. Any corner of the SFF welcome. Especially keen on stories that complicate who—or what—we call monstrous. No SA, no fridging. Email: beth@Grimdarkmagazine.com

For a society that presumably values language, none of these words mean anything.

the thing in The Spear Cuts Through Water where the dead interrupt the text in italics??? and their voices necessarily undermine the aesthetics of empire (and of epic fantasy as a genre)??? genius. im sick with envy

Looking for a great horror comic? Check out Sleep by @zandercannon.bsky.social! It’s a tremendously paced monster/mystery tale that is beautifully drawn, expertly plotted, and just damn fun to read. I finished the book and immediately started re-reading it. Buy or borrow a copy ASAP!!!

Sometimes I think this is the trouble with casually calling artists "talented" instead of skilled. Talent is magical and ephemeral. People believe you're born with it or you're not. Skill is earned, cultivated, and studied. Applying observation into action
