we'll be doing a few more of these through the fall/winter period as we spin up our next big thing. part of our preproduction process is reading, watching, and playing stuff as a group to get on the same page vibes-wise and we figured it would be fun to loop players in on that as well.

Nightshift Galaxy Proof-of-Life, haha. Working on a new heads-up-display that's a bit more stylish, and has a speedometer to help with some movements changes I've been making (higher top-speed with a custom acceleration curve, gravity-assisted descent, etc).

I don't know if this does anything for us algorithmically and honestly I don't care. We've made back our project budget by like 3x and at some point if you can't be happy with that, what can you be happy with? We are thriving in our niche and grateful for all the folks hanging with us.

It's been two weeks and change so whatever, spoiler barriers are down. Here's the concept art I did for the NGLM Volckmann, our game's final boss. Left is the final design, right is the initial sketch. I retained the idea of the "pilot in a jar" but adjusted pretty much everything else.

Our initial idea was to make the Volckmann kind of a "special ops" mech, hence the gun and combat knife, but in practice that felt weird. Why give a mech a knife when it's already 12-18 feet tall? Instead, we leaned into the monster theming and made it a vulture with bladed "wings" and skull motifs.

Lastly, here's our initial concept art for the handler/drone pair. The main details lost when going to final were her DHS logo (too obvious, we wanted to save that reveal) and her grey streak, which I liked but couldn't make work in the limited color scheme of her dialogue sequences.
