I bought this one after the release of the 4th episode thanks to your and @dominictarason.com 's enthusiastic recommendation. 30 hours later (I can't even remember the last game I spent so much time with) I haven't completed what's available yet and are counting the days for episodes 5 and 6.

Also be sure to support fangame devs weather or not they make original content. There's a trove of amazing people who make things for free and you can help them by simply being kind

The "indie savior" complex is a funny loop. We treat them like fragile art projects until they hit a viral loop, then we're shocked when the dev spends six months fighting a bug that only exists on a 2014 fridge-freezer. Support them now.

The "Indie Savior" complex is funny because we treat game devs like endangered species when they’re actually just people in hoodies hoping their Steam algorithm luck hits. Support is the only patch that actually fixes the industry.

Did you know that if you write just a single paragraph with a thumbs up(or stars if you're reviewing an indie book) and no inside jokes& it's aimed at letting people who know nothing bout the thing have context & info, you get to feel really cool for a minute?

Been playing this game thanks to its many demos this past year and I can only say I'm very excited to how this will fair on release. Imagine Helldivers meets a early 00s game where you play as surfers who are cool and sexy and cool and sexy store.steampowered.com/app/2434830/...

So this was already on my wishlist cause it looked neat, but I didnt look too hard at first. You specifically saying that, got me to look closer. A user guide mentioned dash/dodge cancelling. SOLD.

Both Anodynes and Angeline Era are all fantastic. I adore a game where you can never be sure of where a secret might be lurking, or when you've escaped the boundaries of the game.

I wish more people reviewed Big Jays Rattastic Adventure. I sent out hundreds of review copies to influencers and copies through curator connect and not a single person reviewed it other than 2 curators and 5 people who bought the game on steam. Its hard to get reviews or even get noticed.

I love doing my mini game threads and now that I'm streaming I don't really have to, to the same degree. Seriously, if I had more time in the day, the amount of those I'd pump out would be crazy. A bit more difficult than my standard romp with art reposts + compliments but still

i feel this post, ya. i got really into an indie game that released last year and just this month i got to be on a gdq hotfix for it, so trying my best to spread word.

Let's see games I haven't reviewed yet. Princess remedy! Super hexagon! Dirtbag mahjong! I'm sure I've written a review for heaven will be mine but you should play it. It might just change you inside out. Or set a time bomb in your heart that waits five years before it changes you.

Does it count if you're actually making the games? But seriously, I often send some cash the way of an itch.io developer when they make a new game for an old format or do something else that sparks my interest. There's a French dude who ports arcade games to the Amiga; it's pretty schway.

good place to talk about this game: Detective Instinct! I first saw the dev post in the Ace Attorney subreddit and found the demo incredibly charming, drawing from its many inspirations to create a unique sense of style; I wish it was longer, but that just means supporting them to make more!

Legit any little bit helps us out. And some of what we do is pretty dangit. Just read through the emotional beats segment of my story and turned into a mess. I want people to see this one day!

On the subject of reviews: Is it okay to leave a positive one that says "TODO write more details later"? I've loved a lot of games, though it takes a while to synthesize why I love them into words. In the meanwhile, it would contribute for the "Algorithm"...

Oh hell, this immediately blew up! Okay then, let's put my money where my mouth is. The Mermaid Mask was one of my favourite games in recent months, absolutely delightful point & click adventure, fully voiced, fantastic art design, clever writing, you should play it.

I would like to reply again to thank you personally for the Mermaid Mask PSA. i played two sessions with a friend, became insane about it, bought the bundle and am currently playing it with another friend and am so so excited about uncovering the rest of the game

Oh MAN, the Mermaid Mask is out?! Tangle Tower completely sideswiped me when I first played it and I got so stoked to hear they were making a sequel, I will deliver the devs twenty dollars posthaste 🫡

Had a big thread about how awesome Labyrinth of the Demon King is, I was so happy I finally got around to playing it!

Casey S. Pumpkins 🎃@caseyexplosion.bsky.social

Hey folks, I've added Labyrinth of the Demon King to my Steam curator page with a very enthusiastic recommendation. If you've not heard me raving about this on stream, it's a King's Field style dungeon crawler that is also a Survival Horror game, a magnificent blend of gameplay styles.

Here's a thread I did the other day about upcoming indie games I'm seriously looking forward to, 10 games all with demos you can try! Go check these out, wishlist 'em, play the demos. Share what looks neat.

Casey S. Pumpkins 🎃@caseyexplosion.bsky.social

Right, I've made a very negative thread, so I'm gonna follow it up with a thread of upcoming games I'm looking forward to! 1. Entropy Really enjoyed the demo of this during the recent Steam Nextfest, it's the new game from the developer of Dread Delusion, a party based RPG this time around.

Here's another upcoming indie game I'm extremely looking forward to, the demo impressed me so much I went out and bought the developer's previous game Crypt Custodian. Go play this right now, it's a Metroidvania with some positively gorgeous and grim art.

The writing is absolutely fantastic in every Detective Grimoire game. I'd love a fourth one someday, but I'm afraid they made the scope too large with this one and are going to feel pressured to keep growing it going forwards

Definitely one of my favorite indies of the year. I think I might have liked the cast of Tangle Tower a bit more, but I'll admit that the 3rd Act of MM was overall tighter and more neatly tied to the central mystery.

My personal fave right now is Alruna: End of History. I am working on a big craft project and haven’t been able to do another play through of it yet but I’m speeding through the project so I can get back to it. It was so worth the wait!

My favorite indie game ever is Phoenotopia: Awakening, and trust me when I say I never waste an opportunity to tell people about it. If you‘ve ever wondered what Zelda would be like today if they kept iterating on Zelda II’s formula instead of the original Zelda’s, then this is the game for you.

Since the thread is booming I’ll just mention the games I’ve been playing a lot. It’s titanium court. And Ball X Pit. (And stellaris but that’s not indie). Ball pit is a game that knows the value of my time and allows me to play the game in 20ish minute stints if I want. It’s great.

Titanium court is such a fun game and I’m still peeling back the layers on this one. Satisfying match 3+auto battler gameplay but the story and the character and the writing. The writing! If you like weird shit, fae shit, stories that are out of left field. Play. Play it. Puck says hello.

This game popped up on Steam as a new release I may like and, drawn in by the character designs, I saw the trailer and was like, "Oooo, someone's making their own Touhou and it looks like they might've nailed it." Wheel World was a huge surprise and depicts cycling in a way that feels good as someone who loves the hobby. Though I purchased it on Xbox so no idea if anyone reads those reviews. But I’ll go leave one today.

The amount of people who need to be told that seeing indie titles grow requires actually supporting them is depressing. They are cheaper to support than triple A so it shouldn't be a hard sell.

On that note, I should check up on Disdain again. I will shill for that til I die. Or until they use AI gen textures or something. Disdain is the perfect example of a game that doesn’t feel like playing Quake, but how I REMEMBER playing Quake feeling as a teen.

One I’m really excited for but it doesn’t have a steam page yet is Deception Engine by Al Fine. It’s a spiritual successor to their first game Chrono Ark, arguably the best roguelike deck builder I’ve ever played. store.steampowered.com/app/1188930/...

This post got me to go back through my library and write a paragraph for every indie I've enjoyed (even a little bit!) in a while. 🫡

Individuals need to take more accountability over their media diets. I've been on a major franchise/IP boycott since 2023 and it's drastically improved my media consumption.

I left a review for Selaco cause after hearing everyone say that game was amazing I felt like I had to THEY MADE FEAR ON GZ DOOM THATS CRAZY indie devs are so talented and insane

I really need to leave some reviews for indies I've enjoyed in recent years! Some indies I think more people should know about and play: I Was A Teenage Exocolonist (seriously, a top 10 game of all time for me), Chants of Sennaar, Citizen Sleeper, In Other Waters, Sword of the Sea, and Pyre!

I will tell you, as a person who spent two years making a game (Our Dreadling) which was sold on steam, but only sold about 100 copies, received one review (positive!) and got a couple of playthroughs posted on YouTube by streamers. Each of those was validating and made it all worth it.
