Seems to be another influx from Meta right now. Let's make them feel welcome! B/c nobody needs to be giving Zuck any more $!

Wandering over here for the first time in months. I’ve really connected with people on Threads, but am not a fan of Meta. Perhaps I need to start engaging over here (I even wore my new sweatshirt for the occasion!). What’s the best way to build community?

A heartwarming Spooky Season tale from my sister in law: 🧵😅😈

So, the Satantic Panic story: back in the 80s, my mom freaked out about all things occult-adjacent because she’d seen a talk show that told her kids into such things were all Satanists, etc…so all the ghost books & the D&D stuff got chucked out while I was at school one day. But wait, there’s more…

Absolutely correct about Warriors. But I feel compelled to mention at least one author of a popular monthly 90s series wrote the first 29 books herself before bringing in ghostwriters (I know this bc I was the ghost for #30.) Strongly suspect similar for other series incl the 2 mentioned here.

Animorphs and Babysitters Club released monthly. The original authors leaned heavily on ghost writers, but the current author of Warrior Cats (another MG fave) is six authors in a trenchcoat and I think *that's* brilliant. A month is a *long* time for kids; a year between releases loses interest.

As one who edited (Saddle Club, Sweet Valley, CYOA, Fabulous Five) & later wrote for (SC, SV, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, etc.) those monthly 90's series, I've always wondered why they fell so completely out of favor. They were definitely money makers for publishers back in the day. What changed? 1/2

I think the biggest thing would be more of a focus on longer series. In the 90s, there were a ton more series being published on a regular basis -- like Animorphs and Babysitters Club -- and we've seen a resurgence in interest in both recently, partially due to nostalgia yes,

I've noticed a few publishers seem to be tiptoeing back in that direction. Like some 4-book MG series deals in PW Children's Bookshelf recently. And imprints like Scholastic NEXT that seem to be doing (somewhat) faster pub schedules for series. Maybe the pendulum is finally swinging back...? 🤔2/2

On this 21st of September #EarthWindFire Day, here's a story: When the boy was 3, we were shopping in Trader Joe's. "September" came on; he knew it because it was in a movie he watched endlessly. He shouts "Time to dance!" and started grooving. He then looked at me and said, "Daddy, dance!" 1/3

So what was with all the hate and snarky comments about YESTERYEAR all over the Internetz a while back? I avoided them at the time not wanting to be spoilered but now I'm curious... I quite enjoyed it (and I'm not usually one for "book club picks" or even mainstream adult fiction...). 🤷‍♀️ #booksky

Rewatching the classic -- some would say the GOAT --1985 music video for Take On Me by Aha, created solely by human artists integrating video with pencil work and wondering why all the youg'uns think AI is in any way essential to our lives. Too much hard work otherwise? Boo hoo.

Can. Not. Wait. Jessica Lange back as Fiona? Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates? JOHN EFFING WATERS? I’m fully expecting a glorious, entertaining mess. (And we deserve it after that non-entertaining mess last season.)

More Anthropic settlement stuff: Writers are reporting that the settlement is sending emails to authors with wrongful 100% publisher claims, indicating that they are correcting these where the pub intended to claim the default, and advising authors to log in next week to confirm the update.

Happy 72nd Birthday to Ruby Bridges, who at the age of 6 desegregated the New Orleans public schools. She’s younger than 30 senators and our last two presidents—and only 7 years older than Barack Obama. The past isn’t past.
