How does Yglesias have relevance. He is exactly who every major leader of movements in American history have spoken out against. My god this is bad!
A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

Drone photographer Theresa Graham (tgraham.photography on IG) captured this Ornate Eagle Ray (Aetomylaeus vespertilio) off Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. These rays are called the "unicorn of the sea": fewer than 100 sighting have been documented. We suspect they're critically endangered.

Most people don't know who Joe Kernen is. If they do, they certainly don't care. But he's been a fixture on cable financial news for a looong time. I make the case here for why people like Kernen are far more insidious and destructive than the hyper-partisan opinion hosts.
Protesting matters, but in America, peaceful protest has never led to real constitutional change. C the American Revolution, the Civil War, women's right to vote, & the Civil Rights movement (which didn't lead to an amendment, but did lead to meaningful legislation). All went far beyond "peaceful."
If protesting didn't work, would those in power be doing everything they can right now to vilify protestors and crack down on free speech? Activist and author Annie Leonard offers an important history lesson on why protest is so important — and why it's needed now more than ever.

The narrative that Americans are divided on abortion is a lie to hide just how undemocratic bans are—and convince lawmakers to take weaker stances on abortion. ~70% of Deep South voters oppose abortion bans. I wrote about the implications of this:

It’s a lesson they should have learned in 1787.
Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
