You will die. You will not live forever. Nor will any man nor any thing. Nothing is immortal. But only to us is it given to know that we must die. And that is a great gift: the gift of selfhood. For we have only what we know we must lose, what we are willing to lose.

even when its not specified as a tarot card, theres a VERY specific illustrative style with textures, repetition, shape, and weapons in white silhouette that is seen in fanart for fandoms not even remotely related to DA, because it just looks SO GOOD. dai’s art direction made monumental waves

Game idea: "Bird Wars" Strategy game where gangs of birds fight for control over strategic resources like shopping mall parking lots, picnic areas, and restaurant district dumpsters. Inspired by an actual bird war between gulls, grackles, and crows.

the handful of die-hard anti-trans voters that exist are going to vote GOP no matter what. so this ad will not pick up a single new voter. all it does is further disenfranchise trans ppl – a marginalized group MAGA hates. this is a pro-MAGA ad & Turek is furthering MAGA's cause by airing it

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

If you have yet to play DEAD-PILLED or have a physical copy, and are unable to grab the game, let me know. I have some spare and am more than happy to send you one, as well as resources on recognizing, researching, and confronting those who have been grifted into Red Pill thinking.

Wes Franks@carrion-comfort.com

People will tell you that only certain folks should play DEAD-PILLED due to the mature themes, but I argue that if you want more people to recognize redpill dog whistles and further bleed the manosphere, then there should be more games like DEAD-PILLED. More games should deal with mature themes.

On the same week the DCCC released its first anti-transgender ad, popular Democratic politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not mince words. When asked about anti-trans Democrats, she called them "shameful," "wrong," and decried them for "scaring so easily." Subscribe to support our journalism.

Started a rewatch of Star Trek: Picard. Which yes, it's a mess in parts but I'm a Romulan and Borg fan. Something that sticks out on rewatch is the scene with the Ex-Borg/Romulan fortune teller who says she saw Soji in the future. Originally thought that a cheap play but on rewatch, not sure...

It makes more sense Season 2 when we find that the Borg Queen has been jumping timelines. First Contact shows the Borg attempting a time war without success. So the idea of future knowledge within the collective is on the table.

Confession time: I hated the ending of DA2 which I've long argued was "kick the puppy vs. kick the puppy" with trivial consequences. It's the biggest flaw in Bioware storytelling IMO.

#daOCqotd How's everyone doing 24 hours later? (no, that's not the qotd, not really, but you can answer it too. group hug, anyone?) Do you remember which choice was the hardest for you, the player, to make? Something you spent a long time deciding?

Took that into TOR where I played sith, because if I'm going to get cartoonishly lectured by NPCs I might as well play Marvin the Martian.

Pouring one out for Bioware this morning, and thinking of their rise and fall across such a long period. It's oddly close to home, for someone who never worked there, and only in an adjoining industry. But I did get to see behind the curtain once, and it stuck with me.

People want to blame graphical fidelity, scope expectations, etc etc etc for ballooning budgets and schedules when DA:V, a game with stylized visuals and constrained content expectations, "cost" however the fuck many hundreds of millions to come out because they made three games and shipped one

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that

Been a fan since pre-Bioware Black Isle, and I blame EA who repeatedly bloated projects with demands for additional monetization, multiplayer, and use of in-house engines not built for narrative RPGs.

Look, we all knew Ramaswamy was a massive piece of shit but apparently he was really worried that we didn't know *just* how massive a piece of shit he was, so, great job, Vivek, you've certainly cleared that one up, haven't you

Pop Base@popbase.tv

Republican Vivek Ramaswamy is facing backlash over an ad featuring his opponent Amy Acton’s estranged mother, urging voters not to elect her. Acton’s mother lost custody of her children after her husband was charged with sexually abusing Acton as a child.

The people I know who went no-contact with parents spent years trying to make the relationship work. Meanwhile, multiple no-contact situations from my parent's and grandparent's generations. I didn't know I had an aunt (and cousins) on one side of the family until high school.

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

A major family feud happened every few generations on one branch of my family. People just packed up, moved, and stopped writing letters home.

Every article has the same premise: Young people are characterizing their normal, happy childhoods as abusive and going "no contact" with their parents over minor disagreements. Every article also, late in the text, blithely acknowledges that this premise is false. www.nytimes.com/2024/07/14/h...
