Just saw someone repost this so I thought I'd resurface it for everyone. It's still relevant.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends: 1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration; 2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you; 3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

I haven’t watched regular TV for a long time, but if I ever do again, it won’t be anything on CBS

CBS cancelled The Smothers Brothers show for their criticism of the Vietnam War. This yet another episode in an honorable and proud tradition.

CBS's Colbert cancellation is eerily like Edward R. Murrow's cancellation for criticism of McCarthyism. Both were cancelled by CBS for the same reason, standing up to authoritarianism.

I had to read this twice to believe it...Meloni, who ran for office on an anti-immigration platform, has now announced plans to let in hundreds of thousands of immigrants, in order to deal with the Italian labor shortage www.reuters.com/world/italy-...

“Because they never heard about the lives regularly saved by their tax dollars, Americans don’t realize the generosity that has been stolen from them,” writes William Herkewitz, who worked for U.S.A.I.D. missions in Rwanda, Ethiopia and Kenya.

nytimes.comOpinion | Why We Couldn’t Sell America on U.S.A.I.D.The end of the federal agency gives us a final lesson about the importance of telling the stories of humanitarian aid.

Is anyone here serious about a one-week General Strike? Or is this just us having a collective bout of wishful thinking? I’m asking because I’m serious enough to have done a whole bunch of math. Man, things’d be daunting, but it’s something determined Americans could pull off

An addled president is shredding the Constitution to usher in white nationalism and fascism while destroying the economy and our health care, so if you’re going to write an alarmist op-ed because a mayoral candidate might open five (5) city-run grocery stores, you can kindly get bent.

An amazing time for Congress to slash policies that have driven a massive private-sector boom of investing in clean energy and transportation technologies that can help break dependence on foreign oil / global oil prices. No notes.

BREAKING: Iran’s Parliament approves the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Decision needs ratified by Iran’s Security Council. It would trap 20% of the world’s oil supply and send a catastrophic shock through the global economy.

<- Proponent of a General Strike. I’ve been brainstorming about how such an unwieldy, vast country could possibly make it work for even 1 week, or a 2-week pay period (good symbolism) How can we exempt/sustain ER services, soup kitchens, and the folks who can’t afford even one day off, etc. Ideas?

all i want is to one day own a modest sized home in a walkable neighborhood and raise money for shelter animals. wear an outfit i like, walk to the grocery store, buy some nectarines, feed cats, and live in peace. just don't understand why achieving this is so hard

Major news—two terrible parts of the big beautiful bill were kicked out by the Senate Parliamentarian. Congress will not be able to limit a federal court’s contempt powers. Spread the word and keep speaking up. Tell your Senators to reject the bill.

Sucha good wish ❤️ I like the use of “U.S. CITIZENS” here (as opposed to *‘Americans’, probably,), but I think we can be more inclusive. Maybe “…the people of Iran”; “…the people of Palestine”; “…the people of the U.S.”, etc.

*Folks often point out that all of The Americas are America, and that any person living anywhere on these continents have a claim to a self-reference of ‘American’

Something I’d note is that while there is criminal immunity for “official acts” for the president, no such immunity exists for the deputy chief of staff.
