Just a little update on that post: I recently also deactivated my Mastodon account as I generally didn't really use it and the only reason I still occasionally checked it was merely about news around Chatcontrol, etc. which are now also already covered here on the ATmosphere.

ChaoticHuman@chaotichuman.x0f.nl

I just deactivated my old account on Nazi Musk's propaganda platform. Meaning I'm now also officially only on Bluesky and (currently unfortunately just occasionally as I unfortunately can only focus on one platform at once and as basically everyone went to there it's currently Bluesky) on Mastodon.

The USA’s failure to punish Trump for Jan 6th was just an historic betrayal of global democracy. What a shameful, abject and total failure of institutions and civil society.

I really, really hope stuff like the Anthropic IPO and folks like Miyamoto coming out in defense of AI can help us proceed to a point where more of us can work together to solve the drawbacks of this incredible new technology rather than have half the people who should help pretend it'll disappear

ChaoticHuman reposted

so you’re saying you need software that is natively multimodal, good at conversions, can work in iterative verification loops, and is good at navigating complicated proprietary formats with intuitive prodding? Hmm

I absolutely do not care about plagiarism, slop and spam. Not real problems or not new ones. As for cognitive surrender, that's been the norm since we started making tally marks on bones 35k years ago, 6 times older than civilization, it's how human cognition works. We externalize it habitually.

Alexander Schmidt-Lebuhn@anschmidtlebuhn.bsky.social

I responded to "being anti AI is a luxury belief". If, hypothetically, some other person somewhere else had instead written "this is ridiculous, translation isn't the problem, the problem is LLMs facilitating plagiarism, slop, spam, and cognitive surrender", I would emphatically agree with them

Ok, slight correction about that point: the problem with Opencode was actually that a leading developer of it has close ties to that Nazi and not that they donate money to him. Still would like to look for an alternative that doesn't work with that Nazi in any way.

ChaoticHuman@chaotichuman.x0f.nl

however as Opencode unfortunately also donated money to that Nazi's Arch install scripts I stopped using it and I'm therefore currently looking for another coding harness that didn't do that shit and is compatible with rea. Do my mutuals have any recommendations?

And on AI: “I don’t want to depend on Chinese nor American AI. I want to create a Brazilian intelligence.” He also mentioned having Brazilian data centres dealing with our intelligence. “We will no longer be a peripheral country. We want to be central.”

because if they could this would mean these reverse-engineering capabilities also exist within local models that also run on lower end hardware therefore leading to their not being a need for using cloud models for it.

Oh and also: my main-purpose behind this experiment is actually figuring out if even Gemma 4 E4B or other models with at maximum 12B parameters could be used for that purpose

again, when you get fired from the coalition it is a tactical choice being made on their end that your vote quantities as a bloc weigh less than what they might pick up otherwise. thus, it is logical you are freed from the obligation to vote as a bloc and you can instead decide how you wish as

sorry but if they're dangling your right to exist as something on the table then you don't have to give them the dignity of the honesty of your intention. if they're running on misinformation to put you on the chopping block then simply make their life difficult even if voting tactically.

correct. you aren't supposed to hold your nose and Respectfully "vote blue no matter who" you're supposed to make your political candidates terrified and desperate that they may lose your vote Even If you're going to secretly vote for them anyway. psychological warfare. etc

Ian Boudreau@ianboudreau.com

I think people intuitively understand that democratic candidates tossing trans kids to the wolves is not only morally repugnant but also politically ineffective, otherwise they wouldn't freak out every time someone said they weren't voting for a democrat who did this

A news article about Rockstar Game's union demands said "no AI, no layoffs, no crunch". But the "no AI" part of the headlines is over-claimed. Instead, they demanded that no employee should be replaced by AI. I think that's a lot more nuanced, and a lot more agreeable than the headline first implies

i know comparing everyone to christian fundamentalists is a bit passé, but some people truly do believe in binary "you are good or evil" and any drop of "evil" is total and contaminates your soul, even retroactively like "tarnish everything he ever accomplished".. dude phoned it in on a sticker

I do not think that we should have democratic control over every aspect of our lives. The point of human rights and limited government is a stronger guarantee than simply "Currently a majority of the populace thinks I should have them". This should not be a hot take.

Seriously? Another update for No Man's Sky announced with a "🥀"-emoji (though apparently so far just on Musk's Propagande site though I haven't checked as xcancel, etc. are offline again apparently due to new legal threats) is already on the way? Damn, Hello Games are busy this year.

Though I guess if it actually does include some gameplay features I think it will at best just be extending the spacestation ownership feature to abandoned and/or outlaw stations and perhaps a smaller Halloween themed expedition or expedition rerun of f.e. the Cursed expedition.

They appear committed to being a racist, insular club for their existing participants, which is the absolute antithesis of the welcoming, inclusionary culture I know and love in OSS.

In addition to the abject racism, the rest of the new rules make clear r/opensource is committed to being a highly insular, exclusionary community. Projects posted must be successful long-term projects with active communities. The person posting must be a long-time active Redditor.

hooooo boy we don't like this no we don't > If you don't speak English, you need to find a different community. We cannot distinguish between AI-written and AI-translated. Since you don't speak English, you can't even verify yourself if it translated correctly. www.reddit.com/r/opensource...

Oh great, looks like the moderator responsible for that (Wolvereness) already had some negative history. In 2014 he DMCA'd Bukkit and Spigot, both of which are popular modding APIs for Minecraft servers.

There's also the phenomenon where people will mass review bomb games they didn't buy or play simply for having an AI disclosure. This is punishing people for honesty! That's super fucked!

Fight how? Refusing to use AI isn't fighting, it's laying down and accepting defeat. It's literally the local models that you consider an afterthought that are literally eating into the investor theses now. Open weight IS the only way you "fight back".
