Holy heck, so many new people! I don't know what popular starter pack I wound up on, but HELLO STRANGERS. I'm a queer, nonbinary nerd with autism, ADHD, and a bunch of disabilities. I'm a freelance book editor as my day job. My social media content is a mix of personal, professional, and profane. πŸ€˜πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

I spent today on the bathroom floor, being monitored through another cardiac episode. Then the cat broke a bunch of my stuff and people did thoughtless things that hurt me. It's been a really bad week. Will you share something nice with me? Anything. Pics, kind comment, funny story, anything at all.

Yknow one thing I'd like to see come out of authors' mass rejection of AI is crediting of the human editors and proofreaders (and typesetters? Is there still an electronic typesetter out there?) who make a book happen. Perhaps on the copyright page with all the tiny type? But there.

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

All my internet friends need to admire Allan eating cauliflower at the table in full face. Especially with the glitter-encrusted Poirot 'stache. Even though he's too young to know who Poirot is.

Everyone is reheating leftovers I cooked and chatting and making jokes. Steph is cutting me up some fruit because I can barely eat. Allan is doing elaborate makeup in the powder bathroom next to the kitchen. The cats are on the couch with me. Happy house. πŸ’œ

Publishers Weekly called today, asking questions about the Must Read Magazines contract situation. Did a 38-minute interview w/ them. This story isn’t going away. ICYMI: I’ll fight just as hard for the rights of the kid entering the industry as I will for my own. Don’t f**k w/ artists’ rights.

I do understand the difference between literal and figurative language but I would still avoid using the phrase "shit-eating grin" in a sex scene - presumably intended to be arousing - involving analingus.

Thank you! I take pride in being able to cook real food while camping. Last night I did a big pot of mango chicken curry, with tons of veggies in it, over coconut rice!

Proper food when camping! Nicely done! Most people would give you a couple of burnt hot dogs and maybe a charcoal baked potato. Happy Thanksgiving 😊

Can*Con is next weekend and I don't know if I should go, even though it's in my city. I hate going to cons without a dedicated group to attend with. My social anxiety goes nuts, like it's doing now just thinking about it. I always feel like a hideous alien trying to barge into everyone's space.

In light of some magazines pulling scummy things on creators lately, I’m doing a little thread on short story rights. I don't want anybody getting taken advantage of. Also, if you're new, this stuff can be confusing!

With apologies to @wyrdingstudios.com for carefully taking a drill to this fabulous jewellery organizer, I now have the most amazing earring display that our extremely intelligent Bengal-mix cat cannot pull everything off of. The few pairs that haven't been converted to clickers yet will be soon.

Submissions for this Trans SFF Bundle close in 2 days!

Trans Authors, For Trans Awareness Month (exact dates Nov 1st-15th), I'm putting together a Trans SciFi & Fantasy Bundle. (Note: its best to submit a book you won't be using for my Trantasy & Queer Fantasy bundle, running Dec 20th -Jan something πŸ˜‰) Sign up form: is on my discord or I can DM it!

For anyone who does not know what a clicker ring is, it's a small hoop with a hinged segment to let you open it. It clicks securely into place to close. I have stretched lobe piercings (so no posts) and sensory issues (I can make French hooks less stabby but these are better) so clickers are ideal.

Swapping other types of earwires out for clickers does require adding a jump ring sometimes and does change the look of how it sits in the lobe piercing, but it's overwhelmingly worth it to me just to be able to wear fun dangly earrings again sometimes.

I, being a jerk, declared, "And just think: By starting now, you'll be good at it by the time you grow up!" He threw fabric at my head. SUCCESS.

Unofficially adopted young person used to do drag and wants to get back into it, but his outfits were previously held together by iron-on fabric tape, glue, and prayer. Today, he is learning how to cut out a pattern. Next week, sewing machine basics.

Absolutely disgusting on MRM's part. Authors deserve better. Artists deserve better. And frankly, so do the staff at Asimov's (and Analog, and F&SF, etc.) who absolutely would not choose this either.

🧡 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/

I bought a stone inlay ring at auction. The vendor kept displaying it upside down and referring to it as an abstract geometric design. IT WAS LITERALLY A LANDSCAPE. SUN, RED MOUNTAINS, RAINBOW. HE JUST HAD TO TURN IT RIGHT SIDE UP. I was so flabbergasted. But I got it for a steal. πŸ˜‚

Dinner was homemade creamy lemon chicken orzo soup with spinach and peas, and three-cheese garlic bread. It was amazing. Dessert was strawberry cake with hot strawberry compote and French vanilla ice cream. Feeding everyone was about all I could manage today, but dang it, I did that thing real good.

Also that dinner was $12, including the cheesy garlic bread, and made enough for eight people. I try to be frugal (food is expensive these days and we split the cost of me cooking for everyone), but sometimes I really knock it out of the park.

'Sport Coat' from 2014 is a fun one. Not grown from seed, it is a vegetative sport of 'Joseph's Coat Katkamier'. There's a half dozen sports off this line of irises. A rare occurrence. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling

I was talking to my friend Mae today about how I wish more people cared about and read short stories. A great short story will take only twenty minutes to read but stick with you for twenty years. Wildly powerful artform! What's a short story that fits that description for y'all?

'Spanish Fandango', from 1951, is really bringing the fiesta to the garden border. So rich and colorful. A good grower and bloomer too. It remains rare in commerce tho. #iris 🌱 #bloomscrolling
