Meta strongly appears to be an enemy of democracy in the US. Proceed accordingly. If you're a politician, activist, or organization on the left, you HAVE to build your presence off of Meta and X - which basically means here and Mastodon. Bring your audience over as much as possible. It's critical.

Hey Meta 👋 We are currently hosting a get-out-the-vote rally in Osceola County, home to a large Puerto Rican community, and our #LatinosConAngie Instagram page was suddenly taken down while we were actively posting content from the event.

The closest I’ve come to death in Minneapolis was a right-on-red driver turning into me on the two-way at Stinson & East Hennepin. My bike hit her front quarter-panel and I barrel-rolled over her windshield. I was lucky with only a concussion. This directive can’t be acted upon fast enough.

Wedge LIVE!™@wedge.live

Today the Minneapolis City Council's Climate & Infrastructure Committee will be discussing the city's 2-way bikeways and conflicts with right turning vehicles at signalized intersections. Most of these intersections don't have signage prohibiting a right turn through a red light.

Just started this book and I can already say 2 things: - everyone should read it. - the future is analog. It must be. Make that 3 things: - however bad you think surveillance is, it's been way worse for years. And it's all about taking your rights to increase their profit.

My encounters with the legal system have educated me. Folks who stay on the good side of the cops have to make an effort to learn that a cop can decide to punish you with their discretionary power to just … put you in the system. Otherwise it can be quite a rude awokening.

maureen@maureenf.bsky.social

people are horrendously removed from the reality of what you face when you are arrested and or prosecuted.

Making the system not absolutely punishing would be a great way to address the seemingly bipartisan complaint about weaponization

This week Doug Ford is removing the bike lanes on Bloor. The difference is now there's hundreds of protesters. Despite pretending to be mayor of Toronto and ignoring Ontario, it's a much bigger fight. Look at how many people came out. That's a lot more than 2 of us!

Hundreds showed up tonight at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis for a rally to support Rep. Ilhan Omar after her DC home was searched by federal agents this morning. The Department of Justice says it was "part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation".

Selective prosecution of our elected representatives will only make us angry. You don’t want to see us when we’re angry.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

A shackled detainee was thrown to the ground, placed in a WRAP full-body restraint, and carried onto today's ICE Air flight at MSP. This is the first time we've seen the device used in Minnesota. If a loved one may have been aboard, full loading sequence is here: youtube.com/watch?v=MEMv2ngB1GI

We're well-equipped to document these flights in Minnesota, but our neighbors in other states could use a hand - if you're able to chip in a few bucks to help get them gear, it'd be appreciated: ottergoose.net/ice

We’re raising money to help volunteers across the country document ICE flights. This helps with accountability, advancing policy, and demostrates to detainees, and their loved ones, that they’re worthy of being counted, and are cared for by their community. Please help: ottergoose.net/ice

Less than the likely cost of two lawsuit settlements against a current StP city council member.... Seriously, this is a pathetically small amount in the scheme of budgets and sadly reminiscent of Nice Ride getting shut down because the core cities don't back up policy with budget support.

This gap is less than it cost the mayor to put a bounce house in the warehouse district for a summer. This is 1/33 the cost of MPS's surprise overtime. They renovated Target Center in part by making us, the citizens, pay $74 million via a sales tax. WE. HAVE. MONEY. We can spend it in better places

We don't have a fast transit network here in the Twin Cities metro. What we have is buses and trams, which are reliable, but slow. Cars, like them or not, are often 5-10x faster than traditional public transit here. Hourcar needs to stay around. Fund it! projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/o...

Public transit, of which car sharing services are a part, is not profitable -- because it creates efficiency for everyone (even non-users) vs. generating direct value. The nonprofit model does not work unless tax revenue is a large part. Hourcar and others should be publicly funded. /rant

Frey's strategy as mayor is "another day, another veto" -- create a new outrage today, so everyone forgets about yesterday's. What did we expect electing someone who is mainly good at running fast

Aunt Fancy@auntiefancy.bsky.social

Weird reality of the Twin Cities is essentially living inside a double blind experiment for every policy imaginable. Really goes to show that activists were quite correct that the pause was about giving ppl extra time to catch up on back rent, not just delaying the inevitable as the mayor argued

We were in Minneapolis for a few days on vacation, but couldn't help filming some of their amazing curb-level bikeways - better than almost anything we've seen elsewhere! How is your city doing on bike infrastructure?
