Hi all! I'm Chris Lau Manson, an artist and comic creator based near Glasgow in Scotland.
I've worked with many clients in the fields of journalism, theatre, and academia to bring a human element to their work!

Can someone give me names of some artists doing non-fiction comics, particularly in collaboration with academics? I'd like to articulate my feelings on the growing use of AI graphics in higher education & would love more examples to draw upon (@chipcollective.bsky.social of course already in mind)!
Oh how convenient that my report about an AI-generated person being falsely represented as an employee of a company in an advert can't be sent because of a technical issue, Google.
Big tech corps can fuck off. Cowards. Greedy, fascist, cowards.
Currently experiencing decision paralysis in that I don't have any classes today, I've been working hard on a new comic, I do just want to chill at home, but I also want to pop out to Braehead, but I don't wanna spend too much money........
One thing that I'm noting in my manifesto research is that criticism and review is valuable beyond any positivity - the mere fact that someone spent time and energy to review your work *legitimises* it. That is one of the major benefits of reviews to creators and performers.
One of the sloppers has said theyβre not necessarily looking for a positive review, theyβd just like an βhonest appraisal.β
And oh my dear, deluded fellow you really, really donβt. See these words I own? It would be almost cruel of me to unleash them on you.
And Andy & BF are consistent in this approach - their intention is to nourish and protect comics from GenAI encroachment. So they refuse to review AI comics *at all*.
It is also why GenAI comics should not be given an inch of ground. They crave legitimisation and are constantly denied it because we reject is as a community. To concede even the smallest ground gives them a foothold to claim legitimacy, and I don't think any of us can afford that.
I live in Scotland now and this is out in the world after dreaming of both for so long, It's still just sinking in.
(The fact that I just have to walk three minutes for a macaroni pie helps though)
do you guys have any examples of vertical/scroll comics that take advantage of their format to do stuff you couldn't do in horizontal comics? i once wrote an essay about Bongcheon-Dong Ghost and Em Carroll's work but that was well over a decade ago and there MUST have been more examples since then
So much of LinkedIn, still connected to the technology world as I am, is just "Guys, I can't get a job and there aren't any opportunities to design and build the things I spent my life making, it's upsetting." and then a slurry of think pieces that are like "THE JOB HAS CHANGED WE NO LONGER MAKE-
- THINGS WHAT WE DO IS GARGLE PISS YOU NEED TO PUVOT TO GARGLING PISS AND BE MORE GRATEFUL" and then it turns out that there aren't any actual piss gargling jobs, the Thinkers just really enjoy gargling piss and telling everyone else that they should be gargling piss like they are.
In fairness, there is precedence for this in crusading Christian physicians throwing leeches, dung, and fox penises at their bleeding limbless patients while turning up their noses at Arabic/Moorish surgeons and their radical notions of "cleanliness" and "care".
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."
Of course reality is not the prime concern for this walking overdone gammon flank, he just wants to play to the insecurities of the chuds who will see him retain his baffling quantity of power. He's not interested in being accurate or compassionate.

Also I feel like you can't walk five feet through a university science and engineering campus without encountering a Muslim student or researcher, like........ They're here, they're part of the community, they're doing awesome stuff adn learning and designing and building.
Shoutout Chris forreal because ever since I started doing this I've never had a drippy, oversaturated alcohol marker leak onto my drawings ever again.
I wonder if capping them puts air pressure on them and brings ink up towards the nib?? No clue. But uncapping while using solved it.
Do you uncap both ends while using it? Promarkers have some sort of pressure problem that results in something similar, uncapping both ends while using solves it.
Ahhhhhhh this is so good
Spaghetti and meatballs - the sauce uses camembert instead of mascarpone, since I couldn't get mascarpone, and it's actually quite tasty!
Okay, remember how I had to use camembert instead of mascarpone for my meatballs tonight?
I might just be a genius, tasted the sauce there and it is DELICIOUS π
Also, have they not been the ones pushing the "existential threat" narrative themselves????
These people are all over the place. Frankly, anyone who believes their hype deserves to be duped.
Formative review done! Gonna be focusing on storytelling through mark-making, and exploring minimalism.
I think the combination of the two is gonna yield some very interesting art π
Tonight's movie recommendation is dedicated to Walter Koenig, may he rest in peace.
Moontrap is a schlocky Sci-Fi/Horror B-movie starring Walter and a certain Bruce Campbell.
My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.
Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.
No one will disagree with me when I say that the great cast is one of the main reasons the original Star Trek has endured for so long, and Walter Koenig was terrific as Chekov. My heart goes out to my friend Danielle, his wonderful daughter. Rest In Peace.
The really frustrating thing is that I can perceive the block on the left, I understand the block on the left, I can isolate and articulate the individual elements of the block on the left, but in my brain it *feels* like the block on the right and I know it's the block on the left but I can't -
- make myself understand and act upon it without a *great* deal of effort.
And I know that it's (probably) executive dysfunction, but there's a voice inside my head that tells me I *should* be able to do these things and that I'm just not trying hard enough. And I know *that* voice is bullshit, -
In what I can only describe as the firstest of world problems, I couldn't find any ricotta in the wee Sainsbury's so I've gone for camembert for melting into the polpette I'm making tonight. Will be interested to see how this impacts the sauce in texture and flavour π
Anyone who spends their free time harrassing female (and other marginalised) writers is the lowest of the low.
Anyone who has talked big recently about supporting women in the games media space, go follow Emma and support her work.
A lovely interview!
Also, never underestimate hearing a long-time collaborator describe you as someone who βnever phones it inβ to make you a little misty!
Having Dave describe me as doing a huge amount of thinking and then be totally present in character while recording: very validating!
The full version of my PRGE interview is up! We chat about the adventure game community, the legacy of Roberta Vaughan, the challenges of time travel stories and what itβs like collaborating with @sallybeaumont.bsky.social.

I want to ask reporters what else exactly they want from Beth Upton. They wanted her booted out of female changing rooms, they got it. They wanted her on trial for misconduct, they got it, she was found totally blameless. They wanted her publicly named and shamed in the media, they got itβ¦
This is not a "you didn't KNOW?" post because I truly envy and respect anyone unaware of Linehan's output BUT he's been EXTREMELY racist for years now. Attacking black actors on his wife's show Motherland as diversity hires; podcast screeds about muslims in Ireland; delighting in Palestinian deaths.
Iβm not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Donβt share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
