bikeottawa.ca2026 Municipal elections: what do mayoral candidates have to say about biking in Ottawa?* We’ve received a late answer from Jeff Leiper, which we’ve added to the published data below. Nonetheless our point regarding the previous election still stands. With advance voting underway, it …

Honestly anyone who promises to solve the nightly motorcycle racing people should just automatically win. Contingent on solving it within 3 months or it goes to the next person ranked ballot style.

This would be a start by the city of Ottawa to set an example for other drivers

Exclusive: The Mamdani administration says it will dramatically expand an effort by his predecessor to install speed governors inside city-owned vehicles, rising from 1,000 today to 3,000, preventing drivers from exceeding the speed limit. buff.ly/kBp8XG2

“The solar array saves us $22,000 annually, accumulating to an estimated $900,000 over the system’s lifetime” Something like this in Ontario schools would make installing heatpumps (for AC) in schools much more affordable as cooling demand aligns with solar generation @chandrapasma.bsky.social

Heard on the radio that two more people were hit by drivers today on top of the one from early this morning. The next council really aggressively needs to fund actual vision zero and safe infrastructure.

Paris is showing how to make cities healthier and more child-friendly. More than 300 school streets are now car-free and give space to trees, play, and safe walking/cycling. The aim goes far beyond traffic safety: cleaner air, less noise, and more independence for children.

Another benefit from accelerating Ottawa’s bike network build out — we can use it to meet some the emission targets the city has on the books. bsky.app/profile/rene...

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes.” #Dutch

Our recommended ecological planks are finally out! With Ottawa’s municipal election on October 26, we’ve compiled a set of ecological planks: specific commitments on climate, transportation, transit, trees, land use, nature, energy, and waste that we’re asking candidates to adopt.

40% of *everything being shipped everywhere on Earth* is fossil fuels Just an absolute laughing-stock clown-show of an energy source. This is laughably absurd, why do we treat this like it's normal and good Fossil fuels are a satirical fuel www.irena.org/-/media/File...

My Byward market realm plan involves installing cobble stones throughout. They naturally calm traffic, look great, and add some character to an otherwise paved all the things concrete and asphalt esthetic.

Being able to walk home in a city like this -after dinner in a restaurant- is a luxury I might not appreciate enough.

When this portable, window-mount, heat pump came out it was $4,000-$5,000 to purchase and install. Now it is down to ~$3,000. It's a cold-climate heat pump that operates to -22°F, runs on 120V and you can still see out the window! 🧪💡🔌☀️💨💧🔋

Ever since the province took over garbage collection, it’s been trash roulette whether they decide to take ours or not. Any efficiencies they gained have likely been consumed by all the extra customer service they have to do for otherwise regular pick up.

@en.ottawa.ca any chance of promoting “trick or streets” block parties to make Ottawa’s Halloween streets safer?

Wake up, Canada. Just four companies control 80% of oilsands production. 60% of those companies' stock is owned by Americans. How is being an American petro colony in the "national interest", @mark-carney.bsky.social?
