Kinda cute that the people who consider themselves above the law assume they'll be protected by it, in the sense that the pardons would actually be honored or that they wouldn't be exposed to extrajuristicial redress (because we have laws about that sort of thing).

doing is "nothing" compared to Biden and the Clintons. To his credit, I only learned these things because my dad wanted to have an honest conversation with me about them. "There are two sides to everything!" And I ... yeah, no. There's not. But if Trump has truly lost THIS guy then he's f***ed.

Postscript: I realized a missed a few bangers. Other "knowledge" my dad dropped. - Rising measles and TB cases are because of immigrants - Bill and HRC funneled vast sums of money through Canada - The Straight of Hormuz was already tolled by Iran before the war (which Trump started to open it)

"millions" - (something about Dems in Minnesota I didn't understand at all) - Biden is a pedophile and the only reason the Epstein files weren't released - (Dad has no idea at all about Epstein's relationship with Trump) - George Soros is the evil mastermind behind Antifa - Whatever Trump is

My dad: "Close the borders!" Also my dad: "The restaurant I want to go to is closed because they can't find enough workers. People are so lazy nowadays." Me: "... 🤦‍♂️"

Gawd but I hate this binary. Adam Smith and J.S. Mill wouldn't recognize what we have in America as "capitalism". And no one except a few Extremely Online tankies want the full Marxist / Leninist package.

I worked for EA for a bit and in spite of everything I never quite understood vitriol thrown at them. This makes me intensely sad on multiple levels.

I'd go a bit further than this. Our moment is like a tag-team matchup between two sides who each feature an Individualist and a Pluralist. entitled to special rights and that their group is the only one that matters. The Red Individualist is fundamentally a nihilist. They think there's only a limited stock of good in the world and they think only they themselves should have it. Team Red shares the sense that they're somehow

"entitled" to an outsized share of a limited pie. Because they are the only team that matters the means always justify the ends, and the means are violence, cheating, and gaming the system.

at large. Individualism, in contrast, is the idea that each person themselves has rights separately and independently from whatever subgroup they were born into). So, in one corner: we have Team Blue. Individualist is something like a classic Liberal - cosmopolitan, pro-markets, believes people

should be able to choose how they want to live. Pluralist focus first on group identity; however that's defined they want all grips to be "equal". Team Blue shares belief in positive sum games. Team Red also has an Individualist and a Pluralist. Here "pluralist" means that a specific group is

I remember reading somewhere that ancient Egyptians might have literally experienced the Pharaoh as a god. Like, they lacked the mental software to process a state hierarchy otherwise. I spent years trying to understand what that would be like. Turns out I could've just asked a Trump voter.

Like ... give us one sign. Drop a cryptic message about "construction tools". Blink three times during a news conference. Something.

This administration has mastered the fine alchemy of creating stagflation from a solid economy. The recipe: start with a senior leadership team that doesn't understand basic economics. Surround them with lickspittles and taint sniffers. Let Elon rummage for goodies. Throw in a stupid war. Presto!

I want to post something snarky like "akshually Putin only hates Poland because USA moniez funded the 1610 occupation of Moscow so lets lick Trump's taint" but then I realize that there are a nonzero number of people on both right and left who would agree with that.

Gawd damn. I had a dream in which Jackson Lamb gave me my annual performance review. It was not pretty. Aside: I both work too much and watch too much TV. This is fine, right?

I cannot imagine debasing myself the way Bari Weiss or Marco Rubio or a thousand others have. What material gain could possibly be worth your soul?

The GOP and the people who support it are unable to see the world as anything other than a single turn game. Cooperation and altruism are literally baked into our DNA but they act like sitting on top of a pile of gold somehow stops the world spinning.

Any time I have to spend an extended stay in the suburbs (about 24 hours) I come away even more convinced that American suburbia is a blight. It encourages a kind of aggro individualism that's abhorrent to civil society. Mega churches fill the gaps and poison the minds of their attendees.

I say this as someone who loves the Ave and the U District generally: closing it to vehicular traffic is an awesome idea, but the city absolutely, positively needs to address the vagrancy issues. "Character" is fine but it's way past that. www.theurbanist.org/the-ave-for-...

I now describe the activity of "visiting the library" (aka using the loo aka taking a dump) as "visiting lake Trump". Like "I'll be there right after I visit Lake Trump. I have to drop off some packages." It's catching on in my family.

Still boggles me that the right isn't somehow going all-in on hot blonde women with guns defending FREEDOM!!! but then I guess I shouldn't expect intellectual consistency in any form from these wackos.

One of the great ironies of the current era is that the center left got ethics and financial prudence and the right got coke and sex parties.

It would be awesome if the Nobel committee called Trump and told them they had some very exciting news but they can only share it in person better wear a nice suit and please pretty please don't say anything on socials wink wink. Then he shows up and it's, like, an old IKEA and law enforcement.

I mean, I wouldn't expect (or want) to be read in to such a thing. But with the POTUS threatening to nuke US cities or wipe out whole swathes of their people, states need at least to consider how to defend themselves.

So ... I buy media for a living. Election season is always fraught. But what's nuts to me is how Meta and Google are basically just giant money laundering schemes. Elon (and Vlad) buy massive amounts of ads. That cash is then filtered through Mark, who then uses it to buy off Donny.
