Measures of care

CRC Rationality & Competition@rationalitycrc.bsky.social

How immigration can make essential services more affordable: Our new study on German elder care shows that hiring foreign caregivers significantly lowers nursing home prices for families, without cutting care quality or staffing levels.

These people have re-engineered Word, and the whole Adobe family of products… they claim it’s a “clean room” rebuild so that could make it legal?? (Though it will obviously be litigated to hell…)

Journal prestige is just path dependency from a time when journals actually had physical space constraints.

Still upset about that highly cited paper in Psych Science you consider deeply flawed? Now is your time to shine ✨

I’m not claiming that this video is particularly good, but this was ~1 minute of prompting, ~$2 of google apis, ~$3 of opus 5.5, and 10 minutes of waiting. I think if you put in even 15 minutes of prompting you could create something solid.

Kudos to the journal for collaborating! Psych Science is doing quite a few things right from an outside perspective.

Institute for Replication@i4replication.bsky.social

Over the past two years, I4R partnered with Psychological Science (@psychscience.bsky.social) on a large reproducibility project. 67 independent teams reproduced 64 articles published in 2024–2025, about 44% of eligible papers. Paper: www.econstor.eu/bitstream/10... Here's what we learned 🧵

Where do I find student writing that is certain to be AI written? Been playing around building a scanner that produces a dashboard of indicators and it correctly assess my work as non-slop, but I need some definitive slop to test the reverse.

To be clear, I am not against student using LLMs or whatever, but they should not outsource the thinking or writing completely. There is a bunch of good use-cases my tool would not flag, e.g. spell-check, etc.

OpenResearch released a public-use data set for the OpenResearch Unconditional income Study (ORUS) - a guaranteed income experiment that paid $1,000/month to 1,000 people for 3 years, with a control group receiving $50/month. Test your hypotheses here: data.openresearchlab.org

“Guys, they want us to go home.” 🔥 🇫🇷 French short film about what would happen to society if all the immigrants listened to angry old racist white men and left (aka the Republican agenda)

Tell me you live in Germany without telling me: The supermarket had a sign this morning that they *only* take card payments. Pure chaos. Staff members talked to every customer who entered the store, whether they saw the sign. Staff members were visibly stressed. Customers confused...

This is such a rabbit hole. Open AI agents found an obscure, old *German* message board and used it to collude, as in they were working together to cheat their masters.

Replying to @janmarcus.de

The takeaway: randomizing question order can help reduce cheating without hurting students’ overall performance.

Me: I am nervous about being on a regional radio channel. Julia: I will talk to millions of likely intoxicated AF fans about birth order effects.

It is great that Bluesky let's you hide rude comments. This should also be implemented in Editorial Manager.

All of causal health research comes down to the fact that people hate being randomized. They will self-sort as soon as is practical

Peter Tennant@pwgtennant.bsky.social

But good causal inference is about more than elegance and trust. If you're going to compare outcomes between two groups that you claim have 'no systematic differences', you should check this is true (as much as you can). We call this an assumption check. 6/10 🧵
