We turn climate information into climate action - equipping policymakers and the public with district-specific data and policy solutions. climatecabineteducation.org
You can't talk about energy w/o talking about data centers-- they're wreaking havoc across the US. Today we have a new resource to help tame that turmoil. Check out our report on how lawmakers can regulate data centers in a way that actually protects consumers & the environment tinyurl.com/4npnrnmy
New @climatecabineteducation.org tool allows you to look at data center legislative proposals in GA, VA, PA, IL and TX through the lens of climate, ratepayer, taxpayer and community risks and potential guardrails.
Clean energy and climate are outspent 27-to-1 in the policy arena, and 630,000+ pieces of legislation are introduced every year. It’s hard to fight back.
This week we launched the Tech for Impact AI Lab to level the playing field. tamingdatacenters.com/start/1 (1/5)
Our state policy team reviewed the results for accuracy, and we’re briefing lawmaker delegations in person on where data center policy could go next.
A policy briefing that took weeks now takes minutes. (4/5)

Our first public tool: the Data Center Policy Navigator.
In the first 6 weeks of 2026, states introduced 300+ competing data center bills. Lawmakers told us the volume was impossible to analyze. (2/5)
How it works: data center expert Saleem Chapman built a framework of 9 policy goals that lower costs and pollution. We engineered an AI harness to evaluate every data center bill in 5 states against those goals, with more states to come in the weeks ahead. (3/5)
Minnesota is facing an insurance crisis, and it is impacting every single district in the state. You can see the community-by-community impact by going to: climatecabineteducation.org/understandin...
Data centers have upended American politics, w/ elected officials doing a 180 after welcoming them with open arms just a few months ago. Our Data Center Policy Navigator makes sense the current playing field in key states & identifies gaps to protect consumers & the climate tinyurl.com/yc7z7336
Climate-driven chaos in insurance markets is forcing many homeowners to turn to surplus lines for coverage, products traditionally used to cover a pitcher's elbow or singer's voice. W/ little to no regulation on surplus lines, this puts consumers & state budgets at risk tinyurl.com/9esm73h5
What should state policymakers do when data centers come calling? I talk to someone with a clear plan for ensuring that data centers benefits the grids & communities where they locate:

I find it mind-numbingly boring to talk about large language models and the air-conditioned warehouses full of computers that big tech companies use to develop them, but even I thought this was a well-grounded conversation on pragmatic ways that state policymakers can deal with data centers.

I'm listening to Saleem Chapman's (@climatecabineteducation.org) interview about data centers regulation on @volts.wtf - loving the discussion of risk. Who bears the risk, and who benefits? How can policymakers match that up? Check it out: www.volts.wtf/p/what-shoul...
Today on Volts: What should local officials do when a data center comes calling? With Saleem Chapman, I walk through @climatecabinet.org's comprehensive blueprint: what to require of them before they're built and when they are running, so that they benefit communities, not just investors.
Are you coming to Chicago for Climate Week? Here’s where we’ll be - come say hi!
1/3: Aspen Ideas, Wednesday 7/22 @ 3:15: The Home Economics Case for Electrification. RSVP here: www.aspenideas.org/pages/aspen-...
Here's the next paper in our Taming Data Center Turmoil series! It examines how hyperscalers break our regulatory framework. A system designed for slow, predictable growth is facing a huge wave & it's overwhelmed. We need systemic reforms to protect consumers & the climate from the coming tsunami
LATEST DATA | Solar power has overtaken coal power in Texas
In the twelve months to March 2026, Texas solar (68.3 TWh) produced more electricity than coal (66.8 TWh).
Just five years ago, coal was still more than 7x larger than solar.
Renewables are unstoppable. BNEF's New Energy Outlook for this year says solar is set to be the biggest source of electricity in 2032 and wind will be second biggest in 2034. Both coal and gas displaced from those thrones. This is the business-as-usual scenario.

Clean energy lowers costs. Don't believe me? Look at my electric bill from last month, thanks to Illinois's recent clean energy legislation. Then check out @climatecabineteducation.org's new policy platform about how to make this happen everywhere 👇
We’re proud to introduce our platform to lower four of the largest household bills in the US – and cut pollution at the same time. Read it here: climatecabineteducation.org/cutting-poll...
Economic instability is at an all-time high — so today we're launching a policy platform to tackle the 4 largest household bills Americans face: electricity, transportation, housing, and home insurance.

Finally, let’s look at home insurance. The average American household will spend almost $3000 on home insurance costs in 2026, 17% more than just 2 years ago. Why? Climate catastrophes are destabilizing the market. But pro-climate policies can lower risk and reduce bills. A win-win.
Bottom-line. The clear alignment between cost-saving investments & climate investments has quickly transformed what is politically possible in red, blue, and purple states. @spears.bsky.social shares her reflections on this moment here: climatecabineteducation.org/climate-acti...

Next, let’s go to the #1 and #2 household bills – housing and transportation. The prices for both gas and rent are soaring. We can address both by building walkable communities and investing in zero-carbon transportation in rural, suburban, and urban areas.
The price of gas is OVER $4.00. Here's how state and local lawmakers can step up to cut costs:
🔌 Speed up electric vehicle sales
🚲 Promote safe biking and walking
🚌 Fight for affordable, reliable transportation
🏘️ Legalize multi-family homes and ADUs

Important column by @markgongloff.bsky.social out in Bloomberg today, featuring Climate Cabinet Education's @jordanhaedtler.bsky.social. Give it a read to understand the scale of the insurance crisis happening across the country!
At the NAIC spring meeting this week, insurance commissioners spoke of a goal of fortifying one million American homes, which a new report shows is less than the scale of what’s needed in Atlanta www.bloomberg.com/opinion/arti...
🥁 🥁 TODAY we launched a new policy platform: Housing Policy That Solves Climate Change. Americans face a dual housing crisis. Supply shortages drive up costs, and too many people have to drive too many hours to get to their homes, schools, and doctor's offices.
I continue to love Climate Cabinet’s approach to reimagining the world as it will be with universal consideration of climate in the policies that underpin people’s daily lives.
Great report highlighting actions that can be taken by state and local leaders now to drive progress on climate and affordability. These are also good investments from a risk-return perspective. Hoping state and local pensions and state economic development authorities are paying attention.
Today, we released a report outlining 16 actionable, pro-climate housing policies. As the housing crisis grows, it’s critical to address it in a way that reduces pollution and lowers bills.
The impact of good policies can be substantial. A 2023 report from the Terner Center estimated that building more housing in walkable and rollable communities could reduce pollution by a magnitude equivalent to ⅔ of the US adopting CA’s zero-emission vehicle targets.
With the White House’s repeal of the Endangerment Finding, the future of climate will be written at the state and local levels. Here are 16 places to get started.

Exhaust from car tailpipes is the #1 source of pollution in the US. Together, housing and transit costs account for more than two-thirds of many household budgets. We can adopt policies that improve families’ lives and bottom lines on both issues at the same time.
