We’ve had five decades of neoliberal governments pretending that economic growth = what’s best for the people they are elected to serve. It’s a brain disease, a self-delusion set to come crashing down in the next few years, as their growthist fantasy slams into physical reality.
Our entire civilization hinges on the security & stability provided by the insurance industry. Now that industry is deliberately misleading itself about climate breakdown in order to survive. It’s a case of when - not if - this industry will fall.
Who would have predicted establishment journalists prefer a cosy Green Party they can easily ignore instead of one that fights an establishment built on corruption, inequality, ecocide & genocide? Every call for @zackpolanski.bsky.social to resign just reiterates why he MUST stay.
The “Surf Economy” comes to the rescue of journalists struggling to find an angle on a crisis set to decimate our food system, collapse our civilization & kill billions of people in our children’s lifetimes.
Exxon predicts 2.5-3C by 2050! Actuaries & scientists warn 2C by 2050 will cause at least 2 billion deaths & 3C by 2050 will kill OVER 4 BILLION PEOPLE! The fossil fuel industry is TELLING US it’s gonna kill over half the world’s population. And from our ‘leaders’? Crickets.
At that point in capitalism where we’re meant to be reassured when a CEO begrudgingly says they’d destroy their business to avoid killing the human race. Where ‘leaders’ have abdicated such decisions to the whims of sociopaths. (I also don’t believe him)

This government is still sitting on parts of a buried report laying bare catastrophic risks facing us from ecosystems collapse. My message to @andyburnham.bsky.social: tell the truth. Release the report in full. And prepare the country for what's coming. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

It is always the same betrayal: the public interest is sacrificed for the sake of immensely wealthy people. And Andy Burnham has already gone and done it. My column on how Burnham needs to defy the ultra-rich if he's not to follow Starmer out of the door. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

This was 63 YEARS AGO! And scientists have been raising the alarm for over 150 YEARS! If we’re lucky enough to have a future where historians exist, they will talk endlessly about the grotesque levels of corruption & wilful ignorance that control & permeate our supposedly ‘civilised’ society.
September 3, 1963 – Ritchie-Calder sounds the alarm: CO2 build up will “radically affect glaciers and ice caps” allouryesterdays.info/2025/09/02/s...
2027 will be devastating. The fallout of this year’s El Niño being described as a “Godzilla level” event for our planet. Quite honestly, dealing with a giant radioactive lizard would be a cinch compared to the looming catastrophe. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
“Oh no! It’ll be a disaster for the economy!” The same economy set to be derailed by climate breakdown & kill 4 BILLION people in the process, according to insurance industry analysis. Our politics & media, spewing the capitalist dogma that’s on track to kill pretty much everything.
This lunacy is end-stage capitalism, politicians bending to the whims of socially-inept billionaire psychopaths despite the writing all over the fucking wall. I’m convinced the vast majority of people would be more than happy to put AI back in a box & never open the thing again.
Despairing at how absolutely nothing is being done to stop the climate crisis as it rapidly slides into the “killing-each-other-over-the-last-loaf-of-bread” crisis.

Essential reading from @rupertread.bsky.social and @carolinelucas.bsky.social 'We’ve left the old normal…but haven’t yet built the institutions, behaviours or sense of security needed for the unstable reality we’re entering.' rupertsreads.substack.com/p/burnham-st... #Thrutopia #ClimateFutures
Just 0.3% of staff in the government department designed to protect our food security are working to adapt our food system to the greatest threat our country has ever faced. We are allowing ourselves to be led by people too inept, corrupt & compromised to save anything at all.
Horrific scenes in Stourbridge. As your home burns, remember the UK government met with fossil fuel lobbyists over 500 times during their first year in power While we bin our BBQs, they’re being wined & dined by the arsonists. Be furious.
