Truly creative people have other creative people around them. This has been true throughout hip-hop history. So this lazy defaulting by many of today's rappers and producers to AI slop art defies the natural order. Nobody will remember your AI album cover the way they do Pen & Pixel shit.

This is the greatest connection I've ever made between two artists. The coolest shit ever I still can't believe it

What's that? VISIONS OF BODIES BEING BURNED by @clppng.bsky.social is next? Of course it is. The second Horrorcore album from your favorite's favorite, it's not just more political & supernatural, it maintains the masterclass of the first drop. Essential listening. open.spotify.com/album/0b1q9s...

THERE EXISTED AN ADDICTION TO BLOOD is a sonic masterpiece by @clppng.bsky.social. Horrorcore noise rap by the best to ever do it, the production draws influence from classic horror films, Daveed Diggs delivers impeccable flow, and we even get social commentary. open.spotify.com/album/0xeEJg...

Lots of good answers here but nobody has mentioned the incredible sets in Son of Frankenstein (1939)

What's the most beautiful horror movie you've ever seen? I would say Kwaidan, though I realize that's a pretty basic answer. But given Kwaidan as a benchmark, can you recommend a horror (or horror-adjacent) movie in that league, or even more gorgeous?

Hi everyone, @clppng.bsky.social and I have had to push back our conversation until this coming Tuesday, the 22nd, at 6:30pm PST. Please join us then to discuss their masterpiece "Splendor & Misery", 10 years after its release.

I only felt a “shared bond” immediately after 9/11 by participating in the largest protest movement in the history of the world as every representative democracy marched off to war

Senator Elissa Slotkin@slotkin.senate.gov

But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

I'm very excited to announce that on September 17th, I'll be hosting a conversation with @clppng.bsky.social to discuss "Splendor & Misery" and its legacy, a decade since its release. The discussion will be streamed live from my YouTube channel, starting at 6:30pm PST.

In 2002 Jonathan and I were hired by UCLA (we were students there at the time) to film backstage interviews at the All Tomorrow’s Parties fest happening on campus. That year it was curated by Sonic Youth…

Security let us into the photo pit for Merzbow, but said “only for the first three songs.” Masami played one 50 minute continuous roar so nobody ever made us leave

Afterward we tried to tell Masami how great his set was but we were just babbling in rapid English at him while he smiled politely and Jim O’Rourke had to come up and tell us that he definitely wasn’t understanding anything we said.

Putting aside how dumb this is for all the reasons everyone else is objecting—in the past 30 years, film hasn’t changed nearly as much as it did in the 30 years before I was born. The LOTR movies haven’t aged at all. It’s not like being a kid in the 90s watching films from the 60s (which we all did)

Zaki Hasan@zakiscorner.bsky.social

Man, this is such a nihilistic take. Forget Lord of the Rings. My kids have watched The Wizard of Oz. The Godfather. Planet of the Apes. TONS of classics that are quite a bit older than 30 years, and they’ve enjoyed and appreciated them all.

The gulf that separates Doctor Doolittle from Jurassic Park is miles wider than the one between Fellowship and, I dunno, the Minecraft movie

And to everyone else’s point—when I used to teach film, the undergrads who told me they hated black and white movies all loved Casablanca and Sunset Boulevard and High Noon. They just needed somebody to show them

Lollipop, White Winter Hymnal, Levels

had a debate last night about the definitive millennial song. some contenders: mgmt’s “kids,” yeah yeah yeah’s “maps,” kanye’s “all of the lights,” arcade fire’s “wake up,” postal service’s “such great heights,” animal collective’s “my girls,” lcd soundsystem’s “all my friends,” stroke’s “last nite”

The 10th anniversary of our third album Splendor & Misery is coming up so we made a festival. August 13 in NYC come see us, Spelling, Shabazz Palaces, ELUCID, Fatboi Sharif, evicshen, Maria Chavez, and more.

Yes it’s a sample. Jonathan Canady gave us his blessing and we shared a portion of the publishing split with him

@clppng.bsky.social Did you take inspiration from/sample Shrine by Deathpile for the song Body & Blood? I was recently giving G.R. a re-listen and heard it. I imagine there is probably an answer out there for this question, but I can't find it.
