The game here is clearly in the first half, but for me it's the "weirdly intense" second half that really makes this one. There's no bluffing, no real strategy, and yet somehow it captures the feel of a high stakes Liars Dice game in a seedy backroom somewhere. Such a cool trick!

Had a chance to play this, and it's the most stupid (complimentary), chaotic fun. We kept on asking for one more game, it's so quick to play. Though don't get too enthusiastic like me and accidentally elbow your friend in the face 🫣

Magical Athlete is an all-timer, especially if you have kids. Every kid I've shown it to, it captures their imagination almost instantly and they get obsessed. I'm also excited to play Molly House, I backed the recent reprint ^_^

The 2026 American Tabletop Award for Early Gamers goes to Magical Athlete, from @cmyk.games! For more information, please see americantabletopawards.com/magical-athlete

The 2026 American Tabletop Award for Casual Games goes to Hot Streak, also from @cmyk.games! For more information, please see americantabletopawards.com/hot-streak.

CMYK's Hot Streak and Magical Athlete race to wins in this year’s American Tabletop Awards, Fate of the Fellowship and Molly House also triumph: boardgamewire.com/index.php/20... Huge congrats to @cmyk.games @perryjon.bsky.social @mattleacock.bsky.social @miasmacorp.bsky.social @alex.cmyk.games!

game board my niece designed after we played Magical Athlete the other night

Looks like Hot Streak is the second @cmyk.games release where I'm going to have to buy a second copy because my daughter fell in love with the pieces

This week's video is a TWOFER REVIEWFER: a double serving of joyfully silly boxes, both of which are EXCELLENT. But which one is the best? www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos/revie...

Catan with Huge Baby as the robber!

@cmyk.games's @alex.cmyk.games joins Intertextual Experience for its newest episode. It's unsurprisingly amazing, and I could type a whole bunch of words explaining why it is. But I'll just let the episode, colors, and Alex speak for themselves. open.spotify.com/episode/1uqV...

Hot Streak ABSOLUTELY lives up to the hype

OH MY GOD

There isn't a boardgames wrapped but MAGICAL ATHLETE is easily my favourite of 2025 - I've played loads of times and it never stops being funny and interesting. I love introducing people to it. Huge recommendation! (not sure you can get it everywhere yet soz)

Opinion time! In before the rest of the world is sick of end-of-year top lists, here are my top few games for 2025. Read it, or don't, you're a grown-up now and can make your own decisions. punchboard.co.uk/game-of-the-...

I collaborated with CMYK and Angela Kirkwood on the redesign of cult classic game Magical Athlete! I worked on the brand identity, art direction, and all the graphic design for components like cards & tokens. Now ask me how much math I had to do to make an evenly spaced game board with 31 spaces...

Ahh cool Wilmot's Warehouse made the Guardian's 30 Best Boardgames for Christmas! Loads of other great stuff in there too..

Betting on Queen Mum financially ruined me in Hot Streak.

Podcast! This week, Tom and Matt are finally tackling the dynamic duo of Hot Streak and Magical Athlete! Spoilers; they’re both absolutely fabulous. The games. Though the lads do have their moments. www.shutupandsitdown.com/podcastle/po...

✨ Loving CMYK Games’ bright colours and paper packaging. It really stands out! No Thanks! ➡️ pass or pay chips to dodge cards, but tension builds fast. I’m Out! ➡️ race to drop cards and be first to shout “I’m out!”. We enjoyed both. Light, quick, and great with more players! @cmyk.games

I have often bemoaned the dryness of many modern games. Somebody on the web wrote "boardgames are just math made fun", and I answered that many boardgames are math made not fun. In such games, scores are no longer a reward for good play, but the entire games just consist of calculations. (1/X)

The game Magical Athlete seems to have a hold on anyone it teach it to! 😆 @cmyk.games

I'm late to the party on "No Thanks" Just picked up the re-release by @cmyk.games First simple card game I've played that had at least 4 "Oh wait, I'm doing this wrong!" moments. Not in terms of rules, but in strategies.

CMYK has released two more titles in their Magenta series, aggressively pink big-box versions of small-box classics. The pair, No Thanks! and I'm Out, also happen to be my favorite Magentas thus far. My review: spacebiff.com/2025/10/27/n...

If you told me a few years ago that I'd have an opportunity to review a new edition of Magical Athlete, I'd have called you a liar. If you followed up by telling me it was from @cmyk.games and was perfect in every discernible way, I'd have asked who put you up to this. pixeldie.com/2025/10/08/m...

I love how the components for @cmyk.games’ Magical Atheletes are stored in paper bags instead of plastic. Not a single throwaway or even reused piece of plastic inside the box! Other game publishers, please imitate!

🏃‍♂️✨ We played Magical Athlete and it was delightful! Players draft characters with unique powers, then race them in fast-paced heats. Who knew a snake could outrun an Alchemist? 🎨 Loved the vibrant art, clever character design, and the eco-friendly packaging. Big win all around! ♻️💖 @cmyk.games
