I demand that we only pay car and home insurance after we have an accident

Assistant AG for Fraud Colin McDonald: "Apparently 35% of people have never even used their Obamacare account for any health services. That is a statistical impossibility and it's because these are not real people seeking real care. These are fraudsters."

#JazzGuitar #GuitarSky – I'm a classically trained guitarist, playing seriously off and on for about 35 years. I've had some Jazz instruction a long time ago (college). These days, I mostly play Metal. I want to dig into Jazz standards, but I struggle with WHAT to practice.

I know scales, progressions, etc. I have a few vols of Real Books laying around. I was a pro transcriber for many years. I know HOW to practice and prepare as a professional. But I feel stuck.

The last few years, I've played a semi-regular Smooth Jazz/R&B gig with a great group, and I want to do more of that and be more versatile in general. But I'm not a great improviser. Should I learn solos I admire? Patterns? Famous, highly regarded versions of specific tunes? HELP!

Prediction: SROs and Police responding to incidents will get drone pepper sprayed.

The tiny and quick drones are being deployed in an increasing number of school districts – part of a growing school security industry as parents and schools find new ways to protect students and staff from carnage. https://cnn.it/4qDiszA

Harder and harder to mark satire as satire without explicitly screaming "THIS IS SATIRE!!!" but this hit that mark. Well done.

Reporter: You haven’t heard her name until now. She’s only seventeen years old. But White House intern Crespa Blumbo has been in charge of all nuclear missiles for the last two years and she just ordered the military to enact Project Acheron

How to handle litigious bullies:

WIRED@wired.com

Yesterday, WIRED learned that Madison Square Garden was suing us for our accurate reporting. We stand by our work. That’s why we’re removing the paywall from two of the MSG stories they don’t want you to read, making them free for everyone.

Wanted: Drummer in Richmond, VA area for 80s/90s Thrash Metal tribute act. Currently rehearsing ~2x per month to get in front of music fans this fall. Sample setlist: -Medusa -Holy Wars -Behind the Crooked Cross -Beg to Differ -Master of Puppets -World in a World

SCOTUS: "Why do you keep denying yourself the right to vote for the representative of your choice?!!??!"

Michael McDonald@electproject.bsky.social

My quick read of Callais decision is that the majority says if a racial community votes consistently with a party, then it is okay to deny them representation because that's just partisan gerrymandering

Currently reading "An African History of Africa," and one of the emergent themes is that empires for which a major source of wealth was robust agriculture repeatedly farmed themselves to death in a time before we had the technical knowledge about how to not do that. Today, we have the knowledge. 😐

Many of the soil scientists and engineers who consult with farmers on conservation practices are now gone, and those still serving are often stretched thin. @insideclimatenews.org kentuckylantern.com/2026/04/14/u...

When indoor cats make that funny chirping sound because they want to get the bird outside but know they can't just bust through the screen.

Cheetahs purr like housecats! Their unique vocal cords let them meow instead of roar, blending fierce speed with adorable sounds.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility (one day late, I know). You have an absolute right to be who and how you are without weirdos in government and law enforcement harassing you and trying to legislate you out of school, work, and public spaces. 🤘🏼

it's incredible that as long as you do the right amount of bigotry you can just rob the country blind and enough people will not care, even though those same people will be filled with incandescent rage if someone uses food stamps to buy a 12 pack of diet coke

This is the key to understanding why unpopular things get funded, popular things get shelved, and the courts are staffed with too many ideological wingnuts.

Thread: Republicans won the Senate in 2024 despite Democrats winning more votes & representing more people nationwide. Republicans last won more support than Democrats in the 1990s but won the Senate anyway in 7 of 13 elections since 2000. Data & charts below: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

This is a list of companies whose CEOs you can DM on LinkedIn and tell them you're not patronizing them until they explicitly call for a full retreat by ICE and DHS from the state of MN. "Deescalate" is not gonna cut it here.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce has released this letter on behalf of more than 60 CEOs of Minnesota-based companies.

These and so many companies are the same ones who went right back to donating to GOP incumbents who facilitated and brushed aside the 1/6 insurrection and coup attempt as soon as they realize they wouldn't face an immediate backlash from consumers or reputational damage. That must change now.

Get ready for "I'd love to release the files but as you know there's an ongoing investigation (that I directed the attorney general to initiate to distract from my involvement), and Pam tells me we shouldn't make evidence public when there's an open investigation so you'll have to ask her about it."

Excellent context for the possible reasoning behind KBJ's decision. (Hint: she's pushing on both the lower courts and her SCOTUS peers to not fck this up).

Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social

If you’re trying to catch up on what went down with #SNAP late last night at #SCOTUS, here’s my attempt to read the breadcrumbs on the “administrative stay” issued by Justice Jackson—and why a justice so critical of the Court’s grants of emergency relief to Trump still granted temporary relief here:

You left out the part where rich people spend a billion dollars on all sides of an election campaign to guarantee that when the rubber hits the road, the rich will get the tax break without having to do the "incentive" part.

Mark Cuban@mcuban.bsky.social

Want to use rich people like me to your advantage? Incent us to help those who need it the most. Lower corp taxes for comps that pay a min of $25 per hour. Lower corp taxes if employees get stock at the same pct as the CEO. Bottom up incentives work. Dems never innovate. They bitch

For the good of the country, the agents with first-hand knowledge of this request need to go on every wingnut podcast, broadcast, and radio show immediately from now until Beyond the End of Eternity. And bring the receipts. Going on NPR and CBS won't break through to who needs to hear this.

Jeff Bezos reportedly wants to buy Condé Nast as a wedding gift for his wife. CN owns Vogue, Teen Vogue (which has been absolutely banger in the modern era), and Wired, among others. What might happen to reporting like this if CN becomes another Bezos property?
