beyond the obvious metaphorical fecundity of this, it also makes me wistful thinking about what the jackass crew could have done with some cheap humanoids. i want to see johnny knoxville boxing a unitree g1

i have theorized that autonomous ai will use many resources that humans overlook/ignore, including humans who have been discarded (the homeless, mentally ill, the aged) - imagine if a home for such discarded humans is built by a charity (backed by an ai) which then lets the ai access/use such ppl

Crazy the resources being spent on designing robots to 'look' like humans, the animal with arguably the weakest physical form. I get why they're all trying, but why not stay on the other side of the uncanny valley and make utility the top criterion?

The fairly reasonable argument is that the world we've built is best suited for entities shaped like us. A humanoid robot can fit through doorways, climb stairs, use tools and appliances, and so forth.

I mean, it's kinda close to the self-fellatio ego purpose of building humanoids in the first place, right? bsky.app/profile/vaga...

🧵 The "Humanoid Fallacy" is the tech industry’s biggest ego trip. We’re simping for sci-fi aesthetics while ignoring actual utility. If you think the future needs legs to be intelligent, you're missing the point. Read more: medium.com/@brian.ragle... #AI #Robotics #HumanoidFallacy #Tech 1/3

On the other hand, the robot reacts with empathy, doubling over just like it got kicked in the gonads also. We may not be close to independent robots, but when we do, that empathy will go a long way way to stop them from annihilating us.

From the comic "Storm: The Last Fighter" (1979) where Storm and his merry crew must cross a room where holodeck-characters-with-the-safety-off fight them by anticipating their own moves. They manage it by switching partners and fighting "each other", confusing the computer.

First off, why didn't he wear a cup? And second, WHAT KIND OF A MO CAP SUIT IS THAT?????? Is it registering? Third, why are there so many computers around them?

At least it was originally presented as real. I have no reason to doubt it. I have devoted zero effort to learning to distinguish between AI & real videos. But comments that say, in effect, "if you know anything about AI videos, it's obviously fake" are zero evidence to me, less than my guess.

Sure, telemetry is robotics, just not the kind of robotics they are trying to sell everybody on. Nobody wants a robot dishwasher that requires you to pantomime washing and putting away dishes while wearing a weird hat (and then it accidentally drowns you in the dishwater?).
