Bad hearing, bad sight, scattered brain. Full of PFAS, but a true believer in radiation hormesis. Why isn't rutile rutilant? I like valence electrons (but K shell too) & deep time.

I'd love to sit back and laugh maniacally as AI-spendthrifts lose their asses and the 'ludes wear off, but I can't, because this will hurt our loved ones and vulnerable folks most. Asshats. www.openmarketsinstitute.org/publications...

LLMs, asked to "peer" review 200 papers published this year in top science and medicine journals, either rejected or recommended major revisions 76% of the time. Telling the LLMs the paper was a revision paper made them much more generous. arxiv.org/abs/2610.31414

Cactuses make a surprisingly large amount of carbonate when they die. Makes the desert strangely coral reef like.

This is the new ending of that necrogoblicon music video. Instead of clawing The Brad's face off, he simply beats him at the office with AI cheating
The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...
Yeah this one. After he smokes weed and stays up too late to do his job properly, he shoulda just asked CoPilot "make my sales like Brad's" m.youtube.com/watch?v=-23o...

Gotta rant… I am not going to see the Elizabeth Holmes movie and it’s making me kind of crazy that it’s becoming a phenomenon, because the Theranos story is about who got fooled, not who fooled them. This jaunty @wired.com piece is reasonable all things considered www.wired.com/story/how-el...

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Ok yeah since multiple people asked, I'm personally fine. But no, Indonesia as a whole is not fine. We haven't been fine for a while. I'm actually surprised this didn't make international news earlier.

This is magnificent!! I withdrew from contractual negotiations with a major academic publisher earlier in the year because they wouldn‘t revise the offered contract to prohibit AI use of my work. It’s extremely heartening to hear of others having success with these kind of clauses, bravo!!
While this can be technically true, I am reminded of a book excerpt someone once sent me talking about the neutrality of tools. That a tool designed to do a thing invites doing the thing, & that well-designed tools know what is intuitive to users & present themselves to do the thing they're best at.
Surely there's a balance to be struck somewhere. AI is not the antithesis of art. We can use tools without sacrificing our ability to participate in worthwhile activities like art. It's in the user's hands to choose what they want to do themselves and what they want to automate.
