Just wondering... If an American politician was tried and convicted of treason or a war crime, would pentobarbital be a possible agent or the firing squad the only permissible method used?

MeidasTouch@meidastouch.com

Pete Hegseth says Americans will be able to watch a Trump-approved firing-squad execution. If he follows through, the U.S. could join a disturbing club of countries known for public executions—including Iran, Afghanistan, and North Korea.

Unlike Minnesota, Texas and Florida weren’t invaded by lawless, masked “immigration” ICE thugs. That’s because their residents voted for Donald Trump and their governors flatter him. This isn’t about immigration; it’s about deeply damaged Donald’s brittle ego.

It is not up to the armed forces to put a stop to Trump’s ghastly ideas of war against NATO. The United States is not run by the military, nor should it be. Americans, and their elected representatives, must take this burden away from the armed forces—now. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Replying to @weatherwest.bsky.social

I'm not sure most folks are aware of the immense magnitude of loss this would entail for the global weather and climate community, and beyond. NCAR has played a greater cumulative role in advancing weather prediction and atmospheric modeling than perhaps any other single entity in the world.

This exemplifies the long term impact of dismantling active research capability. NCAR has been vital since 1969, so rebuilding will take generations. Seems like a strong existential desire which amounts to climate suicide.

James Franklin@franklinjamesl.bsky.social

These people are nuts. NCAR developed the GPS dropsonde, which revolutionized the understanding of TC structure, improved forecasts, and validated remote sensing platforms, as documented in over 400 peer-reviewed publications in the last 25 years. And that’s just one of NCAR’s countless advances.

The new National Security Strategy: Does Congress agree with travesty? Are the American people aware of what Trump is doing? Reviving the Monroe Doctrine, minimizing NATO, etc. Now, having three spheres of influence via Trump, Putin and Xi.

Anne Applebaum@anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu

The new National Security Strategy is a propaganda document, designed to be widely read. It is also a performative suicide. Hard to think of another great power ever abdicating its influence so quickly and so publicly. It will be worth following the reactions around the world, not just in Europe.

Dr Snyder is sadly spot on. Trump is knowingly hanging the country out to dry. I'm guessing that he will amass as much wealth (offshore) as possible and make his getaway while the US fights both an internal and external war.
