38% of the sector is carrying out compulsory redundancies. 30,000 jobs lost in three years. 43% of universities in deficit. Our world-leading university sector is in crisis. And where is the government? (If this had happened in fishing or steel, we'd never hear the end of it.)

This whole argument is premised on the idea that we had a perfectly correct rate of diagnosis at some point in the past, and there is *zero* evidence of that.

A Mere Solicitor@ameresolicitor.bsky.social

What is the rate of “false” diagnosis? What is the actual harm done? Especially when the main intervention is “understanding and reasonable adjustments”? Or is this just the transphobic moral panic collecting another set of victims?

In other words, a 10 percent contraction in one of Britain’s most successful exports. If it were steel or fish or other infinitely less profitable sectors, people would be having a meltdown.

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I am once again pointing out that when politicians say they want less people to go to university or more people to work in a factory, they never mean their own kids.

NHS guidelines say children should receive a diagnosis within 13 weeks. The average waiting time is over a year, and more than 200,000 are on that list. Without the diagnosis, children with acute needs cannot access the necessary support.

literally thousands of jobs in higher education were cut *last year alone* and there's been almost no media coverage and no government action

Willard Foxton@willardfoxton.bsky.social

I think it's absolutely mad that today there's a *national news story* about 400 oil platform workers losing their jobs, and the government being blamed. 25% of the UK TV industry lost their jobs in the last 4 years and we never hear a peep about it! Some jobs are 'real jobs' I guess.

This is not true! Mechanisation reduced the amount of available work in agriculture pushing people to seek work elsewhere. Plenty of people resisted proletarianisation and mechanisation, and living standards in C19th cities were awful.

Yes, the whole "has anything ever got better ever" discourse is stupid, but we don't need to embrace the idea that the industrial revolution was some kind of unambiguous good.

They shouldn't make a new Bond at all. They should make a spin-off where Pussy Galore and her band of cool 1960s lesbian pilots solve crimes.

Of course. A confected piece of propaganda from the outset.

A detail missing from The Times story… the woman who took the photo shared it to a Facebook group called ‘South east patriots’.

They are still labouring under the misapprehension that people who turn up to do masked direct action for a fascist movement are floating voters who'll tick the box for Labour if you sort out their local bus service. I despair.

Asked if the Government considers the masked thugs swarming British ports “far right” Andy Burnham’s spokesman replies that “it's an operational matter for the police to set out their response to the protests on the ground. So I will leave them to respond to that.”

The AfD and Reform immigration policies are almost identical. There is no plausible reason for considering one far right and the other not.

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

Watching BBC News and it's striking to hear the presenters repeatedly referring to the AfD as "far-right" whilst refusing to ever say the same about the hundreds of actual masked blackshirts currently swarming British ports

Ice Baths are one of tjose amazing insights into masculinity grifting. They don't work. They're actively counter-productive for both recovery and muscle growth. But they're miserable enough to fit with the Masculinity Grifter's fetish for meaningless suffering. To shiver is to be a man, apparently

the fact that john ossoff can kick off a two-day media cycle by saying that the president is uninterested in doing his job and is sleeping through meetings and traveling around with a young blonde, suggests that not enough of these guys are speaking plainly and effectively about these assholes
