The NYT story does not even include the word rape. Not once.

The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

I felt I really needed to write about Rowling's essay, not because it's new, but because it's so poisonous and ugly that it felt like sanitizing her not to acknowledge it on my trans news site.
There's no pretense left. J. K. Rowling made her hate for trans women clear in a slur-filled screed slurring them a dozen times and describing them as deceitful and dangerous. So writes @evanurquhart.bsky.social this morning on Assigned Media. *WARNING: Article quotes Rowling's hateful language.*

Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.
"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

Interesting approach by Mike Rogers to make his loyalty to Elon Musk & the oligarchy an explicit part of his campaign earlier this year. “When you stand with my Senate campaign today, you are directly shielding Elon Musk,” Rogers wrote. www.metrotimes.com/news/mike-ro...

good morning... or close enough bath consultant is supposed to be here in about an hour. so far no one has yelled at me today
gofund.me/4551fdfe5 sharing the link again. We're currently at about 1/10 of my total goal which is already a lot more than I expected. Someone from the bath repair/remodel company is coming out monday for a full consult and I should get a proper quote then.

For those learning that the Vivek ad went public because it was leaked to @rooster.info: know that most Republicans in Ohio hate Vivek's ass. Not for principled reasons, but because he jumped the line and they're already positioning themselves for 2030. As I wrote in my newsletter today:
It's not even f'ing cheaper. It's just as expensive to use AI as it is to make an indie film with real people/artists.
China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, ‘Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD. In contrast, the crudely animated ‘Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.

"[NYT]—and all of the media—could have investigated Lindsey Graham’s denials decades ago. It’s clear to me that Washington reporters, like the rest of us, had heard the stories for many years. Yet they thought it was an “invasion of privacy” to go there, even as he was harming the community"
From @msignorile.bsky.social: The Lindsey Graham revelations expose a Washington scandal bigger than one senator ...the men's allegations underscore the dangers and hypocrisy of the closet among anti-LGBTQ politicians—and the media's failure to investigate open.substack.com/pub/signoril...

Fun fact for U.S. folks: there are now events called Social Banks, which are basically introvert-friendly Phone Banks for folks who want to juice the algo for their favorite candidates. I know you can join them on Mobilize and they'll tell you what kind of online engagement to do. Go find one!
After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

And we still have politicians not only allowing this, but even taking our tax dollars away from our communities’ needs and giving it to these billionaire companies in the form of tax cuts. If you’re in Fairbanks, AK come to our data center town hall this Thursday actionnetwork.org/events/nobod...
Anthropic is trying to write its own federal AI regulation law. The major AI firms have all issued feeble proposals for how their AI will serve the public, in anticipation of their pending IPOs. It's all a reminder that we cannot, any under circumstances, let AI firms govern the future.

A wrong lesson to take from the Brazilian elections is that voting can defeat fascism. That's not true at all. Democracy is an incredibly frail system and the US almost took over the country through it. ORGANIZED PEOPLE DEFEATED FASCISM
It's another day, so let's talk about this. First of all, Lula didn't win the election alone. He won because more than half of the country FREAKED THE FUCK OUT and built a popular movement that organized several actions both irl and online.

This is a chilling satirical statement and also, I believe, a real risk of allowing the idea that nebulous, unproven biological advantages should result in bans on classes of people in sports to gain purchase.
I support banning biological Black toddlers from youth sports if it’s an issue of fairness and safety.

AK's had more notice but CA is more worrying. Equally insane and delusional as litigation, but CA tells us something: It doesn't have any close races so it's not about flipping a seat or two. There's only one reason to target CA: it has enough House seats to cover the margin of any Dem majority.
“The Department of Justice is putting its formidable thumb on next week’s elections in a way that seems clearly intended to call into question the legitimacy of any result that is especially unfavorable to Republicans—before those results have even come in.” Me on DOJ’s California and Alaska suits:

I don't know that there is a definitive line to cross that makes you say, "I live in a police state now" but when masked gunmen can routinely brutalize the public, citizen or immigrant alike, with impunity, you have reached that point.
