We desperately need a journalism that understands that balance is useless if maintaining it requires sacrificing interrogation and observation; that what people *claim* must be mediated through the facts about what *is*; that its 1st mission is not to fairness but to accurately informing the public.
The MAGA two-minute hate over Elissa Slotkin is the perfect example of how MAGA propaganda infects and distorts mainstream news coverage, which transforms it into a "controversy" that requires even-handed coverage of both sides' "positions" (one of which is complete bullshit):

And here is a visualization of the country-by-country penetration of WindWaterSolar web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j...
New data. 10 countries in 2025 generated 100-257% of their grid electricity demand with just wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and solar (WindWaterSolar). 14 countries generated 95-100% of their supply with WWS. web.stanford.edu/group/efmh/j...

California may soon be able to eliminate entirely fossil gas peaker plants because a combination of batteries, hydro, and imports (which themselves are 58% WindWaterSolar and growing) provide the exact same service but at a much lower cost and faster ramp rate (and more cleanly and safely).
Phenomenal! Fossil gas has supplied only 3-5.6% of CAISO electricity each of the last 6 days, all in summer, and only 13.6% of electricity in all of 2026, DOWN 62% versus 2023. Meanwhile, solar is up 54.4%, wind is up 16%, and batteries are up 337% in '26 v '23.

Wow! Gas has sunk so low and wind has jumped so high that wind has surpassed fossil gas as the 2nd-largest in-state source of electricity in California. *Solar:163 GWh/day 2026 *Wind 75.4 Gas 73.9 Nuclear 54.2 *Large hydro 53 *Geothermal 17.1 *Small hydro 6.7 Biomass 5 Biogas 3.9 Total WWS* 315.3
Ho hum, only 89 of the last 90 days and 155 of 180 in 2026 with WindWaterSolar > 100% of demand on the CAISO grid, now averaging 5.3 h/d among all days. 58.6% of all demand met by WWS in '26. Gas down 61.3% in '26 v '23 and has supplied less than 4% of all demand for the last three days.

In 2021 - zero days with WindWaterSolar meeting > 100% of demand on the California ISO grid for part of the day. In 2022 - 6 days (1.6%) In 2023 - 56 days (15.3%) In 2024 - 125 days (34.1%) In 2025 - 221 days (60.5%) In 2026 - 141 days (85% so far) and counting
It is just a matter of time before we eliminate fossil fuels and nuclear and biomass from electricity systems. People denied more than 20% renewables on a grid was possible 15 years ago. They complained the sun doesn't shine at night. Batteries, hydro, geo, and wind proved it doesn't matter.

California's main grid is the most stable in the United States despite the fact that it has grown so much WindWaterSolar that WWS has met >100% of demand for parts of 84% of the days so far in 2026, resulting in 61% less fossil gas use in 2026 than in 2023.
59 straight and 125 of 149 (84%) days in 2026 with WindWaterSolar meeting >100% of demand on the California ISO grid for an avg of 4.9 h/d among all 149 days. CAISO had the lowest U.S. wholesale electricity prices 2025-26, indicating most stable grid. No blackout since 2020 eia.gov/electricity/...

If there is ever evidence on a large grid (eg, 4th-largest world economy) that deploy, deploy, deploy a mix of clean, renewable energy+storage techs (wind, solar, geothermal, hydro, batteries) as fast as possible is the answer to eliminating fossil fuels while providing grid stability, this is it.
Fossil gas sputters to a record low, meeting only 2.9% of demand (16.1 GWh) as record new nighttime wind on the CAISO grid complementing daytime solar & batteries kicks it to the curb Wind record 8.29 GW 1:40 AM 5/15 due to SunZia line from NM (part of CAISO). Record has grown by 1.64 GW since 3/25

From April 2025 to 2026, CAISO installed 4.656 GW batteries 1.534 GW solar 0.308 GW wind bringing totals to 16.04 GW/64.16 GWh batt 22.577 GW solar 8.681 GW wind CAISO queue is 17.1 GW batt 19 GW sol 0.8 GW wind 0 bio, gas, nuc This is why WWS will ultimately supply 100% of demand 24/7/365
WindWaterSolar met 73% of 24-hour demand and a peak of 139% of demand on 4/14 on the CAISO grid. WWS has also met 50.5% of all 2026 demand, and it is not even summer. 14th day straight and 80th of 104 (77%) with >100% WWS. Fossil gas down 60%, batteries up 324%, solar up 70% in '26 v '23.
