It was the first multi-day hike with my 6yo. She was a real trooper. Overall we hiked 44km over 5 days with slightly over 1600m of total elevation gain. Hiked an out-and-back route from Haukeliseter across Hardangervidda towards Hellevassbu. Didn't quite make it there but that's fine.

There comes a day in your life when you understand – rationally – that your parents will eventually die and that you'll likely be around to see it. But nothing about that prepares you for the day it happens. Bye mom, you were the best.

My kids keep singing a song about the fact that the train doesn't have any brakes¹ and I seem to be the only one concerned about this serious lapse in railway safety. ___ ¹There's apparently a kids version, not to worry.

I'm looking for a job! I'm an experienced researcher in cryptography. My focus is on the transition to post-quantum cryptographic protocols and protocols related to blockains. If that sounds like someone you might want to hire or you know someone who might, let's talk!

Does anyone have a connection to Randall Munroe (@xkcd.com) or any way to reach his company? I’m writing a book and wanted to license some of his cartoons but can’t get a response from his licensing or press emails.

Rome Termini had 29 platforms and they tell you which one your train is leaving from the exact moment your train is arriving. So now everybody needs to rush along the platform to board at the exact same time the previous passengers are deboarding. Who came up with this insanity?

My time at RUB is coming to an end and I'm looking for an industry position. Primarily looking for remote or Rhine-Ruhr area positions, but will consider any exceptional offers. So if you're looking to hire a cryptographer to work on cryptographic protocols, or related areas, maybe we should talk!

Trying to imagine the sad life of the person who felt the need to inform me that I'm not allowed to play *with* my kids on the playground, because the sign says it's only for persons under the age of 15.

I can't see the election changing anyone's mind. Trump didn't vote himself into office twice, or force congress to sit back and do nothing while he waged an illegal war that explicitly violates the constitutional limits placed on his power. The US doesn't have a Trump problem, it has a US problem.

Note: this drop in attendance was attributed to two main factors. (1) The impact of drastic cuts to science and research funding in the United States (2) The fact that many non-US researchers don't feel safe visiting The first sucks. The second disqualifies the US from ANY future consideration.
