I should probably make a pinned post already. Hello! I'm Jacob, aka daemonspudguy. I'm a non-binary dingus from Southeastern Ohio with a passion for computers (especially open systems), music (some of my favorite musicians being Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, and Mike Oldfield), video games[...]
have they ever fucked up in the opposite direction, quoting some guy they say is a rando but is actually a dem operative? why is it always republicans?
There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters:
1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence
2. They want to the GOP to win
Over here for the nth time to remind people there are more Zionist Evangelicals in America alone than Jews of any political persuasion alive on the entire Earth
using slop to do "reverse engineering" has the exact same problems using slop to do anything else does: you can't trust a single bit of the results because the machine can only produce plausibly related output from its input and training dataset
I see that there is a wapo story a few days ago about the office of legal counsel so this is my cue to remind you that the best time to have abolished OLC was the day after it was formed, the second best was the day after torture memos, and the third best is today.
What's funny/not funny about all this is their "porn teaches young people bad things" spiel (they used an alleged account of a 14yo asking about it) is that they admit their age verification measures don't work. They're just piling on increasingly broken restrictions on consensual adult activity
The UK's sold their antiporn law as banning choking and strangulation and then offered definitions that basically criminalizes oral sex.

Wildly out of touch. Voters want to see their candidates confident and willing to fight, not meekly taking the bait and retreating to whatever won’t offend a moderate Republican
‘Not an Appealing Quality!’ Democrats on CNN Panel Rip Abdul El-Sayed Over ‘Cockiness’ The same pundits who tell female candidates to "smile more" now tell the Muslim Senate candidate to be more respectful to the white bigot who smears them with lies. #STFUwww.mediaite.com/media/news/n...
I love some of the defenses for this. My favorite being that he was waving to fans off-camera. In Washington, DC, the one city in the country where Trump supporters are basically a non-entity.
I'm not sure how much more blatant it can get that these guys are looting the federal government and then pointing over there and saying "look what THOSE BLACK PEOPLE ARE GETTING AWAY WITH!!!" bsky.app/profile/atru...
Stephen Miller claims Somali-Americans in Minnesota are "buying Mercedes, buying BMWs, they buy a nice house, all their kids fly first class all over the world"
(This is a lie!)
I think I can summarize this one: Remix culture is an interplay between an individual and a known source, whether that source is another Peron in their scene, or from pop culture, someone from history. It desires to exist in that context. AI robs context. It is a launderer and cannot cite or source
The ADL finally chimes in… with one very short post:
"The term 'Shylock' is rooted in a longstanding antisemitic stereotype. Regardless of intent, its use can reinforce harmful tropes about Jews and normalize language that has long been used to target the Jewish community."
Yes, it’s going to be double, maybe even triple, the price of the previous Xbox, and yes Xbox is on the BDS boycott list, but consider this: if you pick one up you can enjoy theoretically playing all the exciting Xbox exclusives, which do not exist and have no hope of existing for at least a decade
'the price of the [Xbox] Helix console has internally been projected to cost consumers between $1,200 and $1,800, unless Microsoft decides to subsidize the cost'

😳 Trump loses it and SNAPS at a string of reporters, says Ilhan Omar might "go to jail," calls Somalia "a shit house," and boasts that thanks to a new program he announced today Americans "will make millions of dollars by turning others in" during absolutely deranged Oval Office event
Supercut:
Chuck Schumer — one of the most powerful Democrats in the country — has not issued statements to the press or through his social media channels about the administration’s attack on Ilhan Omar, which critics have described as a five alarm fire for the state of democracy in the U.S.
when people tell me "the end product works fine, so who cares it was vibe-coded?" It's just like saying to my face "the end product works fine, so who cares I had to burn down the amazon rainforest to make it happen?"
I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
I will not be silenced.
Jake Paul: "I get confused by the left, the protesters. Do they not have jobs? That's all they do is carry signs around while we're doing the work."
(Note the lack of crowd response to this.)
Trump pushes gutter racism in Ohio: "Look at what's happening in the once great state of MN. What a mess. Somalia ... all they do is kill each other in the streets. They cheat on everything. You have to vote for Michele Tafoya ... I thought I won MN 3 times."
The crowd chants "De-port! De-port!"
I've supported DC statehood for a long time because I find it fucking ridiculous that Columbians are taxed, number more than some states, and yet get fuckall representation and can have the national government show up and override anything the local government wants with no recourse. And now th[...]
a lot of people are replying with 'what are you going to do about it,' and while every level of government could do more, the powers the *DC City Council* has in this situation are comparatively limited. This isn't just voter intimidation, but an argument for statehood for the District of Columbia.
it might not even be explicit voter intimidation by design, right? it's just that there are national guard all over the city, so they're always standing around places they shouldn't be, which is every place. the solution is for them not to be there at all.
