I even gave up, for a while, stopping by the window of the room to look out at the lights and deep, illuminated streets. That's a form of dying, that losing contact with the city like that.

Keep forgetting that private car traffic is supposed to be banned East/West across O'Connell Bridge at certain times

This isn't hyperbole or a joke. Parents actually called the cops and got the black boy and his family removed and the league claimed they were trespassing because he was "putting on a show" and wasn't playing "fair."

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Obviously this is a subject close to the journalist's heart as he's written about four other articles this year all on the theme of "the misunderstood Orange Order". And while I can see merit in the articles, you probably will have to interview someone else at some stage

Thinking of that time the Garda allowed "protestors" to board a bus so they could check if there were asylum seekers on it and their ethnicity.

BBC editing out pride flags and protect the dolls while insisting on poppies really really laying bare its a state propaganda mouthpiece innit

Not quite sure why the Late Late Show is praising Ed Sheeran supports acts who left. Is this not the same show who did a fundraiser for Ukraine but took Palestine badges away from guests?

As an aside I see another driver has crashed into a level crossing today.

The Journal@thejournal.ie

Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing. "I think you should do everything you can to ensure you're visible," he said. www.thejournal.ie/driving-phon...

"Demeaning to grandparents" is so right wing coded but won't be reported like that. Jim O'Callaghan is a centre politician!

Oh I'm sure things go missing in the Dept of Justice all the time. Sometimes even by accident

"It showed that the average waiting time in emergency departments for patients between January and July was 9.3 hours." - maybe that has something to do with it

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

More than 70,100 people did not wait, or left before completing their treatment, in emergency departments during the first seven months of this year, new figures show.

There were a number of reports recently about conditions in Irish prisons which received little political commentary. A bill about non binary people? The usual lot suddenly think prisoner safety is paramount because of one Trans person that was in prison.

It's worth reading the article, and the fact that a civil servant swore on affidavit that something didn't happen when in fact it did happen

Cathal Malone@cathalmalone.bsky.social

Pick a random decision of the DOJ and you'll find an error like this. That's why there are so many Judicial Reviews - it's the only avenue to have these things examined independently. Big Jim has responded by making it significantly harder to take a Judicial Review. www.rte.ie/news/2026/10...

Might it be quicker if we gave a short list of places where it is appropriate to protest and make statements? Because it appears to be quite literally nowhere.

It's pretty common knowledge that the Government doesn't want cheaper housing right? They want to their core voter base to get a house which isn't the same. Which is why we've got about three different "first time buyers" schemes going which will constantly need to be funded.

Cities shouldn't be for people living in them, they should be for our customers adding extra traffic to O'Connell St North to get to our car park for instance.

Dublin Inquirer@dublininquirer.com

Maybe people shouldn't be able to collect social welfare at the GPO, Arnotts lobbies. The company behind the Henry Street department store raised the idea with the man in charge of the regeneration of the city centre, returns show.

A man capable of weaponizing cases like this is a man capable of anything. We've already seen this by how he treats asylum seekers to build a profile (to a lesser extent of course)

Gavan Reilly@gavreilly.com

Jim O’Callaghan will tell the Oireachtas Justice Committee that cases of alleged rape are being “deliberately” targeted by the solicitors’ dispute over legal aid. Such cases, before yesterday, could have resulted in a defendant representing themselves and then cross-examining their own complainant.

Tbh, when I went house buying it was really frustrating realizing you were competing with approved housing bodies. One woman loudly declared in the middle of a viewing who she was with. But I'm not quite sure what they expect local councils to do. There's a lot of overlap between them and the LDA

Ha. Even John Boyne just went "video games, haha, who even knows about them, especially this Legend of Zelda thing" rather than blame someone else.

I think the really important thing to remember is that they don't believe this, and they don't expect you to believe it either. This is just a crude expression of power - look what we can get away with. Look what we can say. You can't stop us. Fuck you.

Probably Eircom for 6 months. Thanks for calling Eircom. Calls cost 50c a minute. Also one of the depressing things I've experienced when a man rang, convinced there was something wrong with his email, cos his daughter who emigrated promised to email a picture of her newborn to him over Christmas

The whole Arday scandal and the reaction to it makes perfect sense when you assume that, for those responsible, the death of a young black person of some modest prominence and influence was a good outcome, they're glad it happened, and would like to do it again.

no offence but why is the British public being asked about my medical diagnosis, would it also like to check out my ankles and my elbows to decide whether I really have hypermobile joints, should I cough on them next time I have a cold so they can confirm that I'm ill

I actually think the use of the word “finally” is so telling as to the role our heavily right-wing media plays in our politics. Sources like The Telegraph have been pushing successive governments for trans-exclusionary policy for years. They’ve got what they wanted. This is now their victory lap.

Fianna Fáil are pumping out social media about posts and it's all so blatant it's just tech bros copy and paste. It will do away with the boring admin work (but they never mention the people doing the work)

Genuinely kind of astonishing to me that we have to pretend these are real concerns and not problems they've imagined themselves into

What a heartless, cruel thing for an elected representative to say.

Fascinating stuff. The NTA also fines operators for cancelled buses and others but the poor people waiting ages for the next bus to show up, don't get any compensation.

Dublin Inquirer@dublininquirer.com

Frustrated with the service from Dublin Bus, one man took them to the Small Claims Court. "Please note, I am only looking for the restitution of €2.75 – the fare cost."

A unreported fact is that the main Garda account occasionally posts about how to be cyber secure.

The Journal@thejournal.ie

An Garda Síochána's main accounts on the social media platform X appear to have been hacked and are promoting cryptocurrencies in a significant security breach. The @gardainfo and @gardatraffic accounts on X (formerly Twitter) have both been affected. jrnl.ie/7193781

Remember "The Des Bishop Work Experience"? I think all TDs should have to do that at least once a year for at least a fortnight. They should have to live down here with the rest of us for a bit, and see if that influences their decisions.
