Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

Alright another niche request lol: does anyone have a PDF of: Theorie der Affekte und andere Schiften zur Ich-Organisation. Karl Landauer, Hrsg. HJ Rothe (Fischer Taschenbuch Verlag, 1991) It seems to be *very* out of print & I’m not having any luck finding a scan online!

So basically, the Pentagon refused to evacuate families of US service members from Bahrain because "it would look bad at home", but senior leaders evacuated their own family members and left Bahrain under the cover of "military exercise". Yeah, the US is definitely a failing empire...

These bits are astonishing (or maybe not, since the US has forever thought of its soldiers as cannon fodder):

What does it mean to say the organism is a SYSTEM? Can we make this concept precise and useful? Paul Weiss showed us how a century ago! In my new paper I recover his neglected systems view & use it to undermine four entrenched theses in biology: reductionism, genocentrism, determinism, & mechanicism

link.springer.comThe Organism as a System: Insights from Paul Weiss - Acta BiotheoreticaDespite the remarkable successes of molecular biology over the past three quarters of a century, there is growing recognition that organisms must be understood as integrated systems if we are to fully...

super specific request: does anyone know where i can find a PDF of Volume 1, Issues 1-3 (1937) of the American Marxist Association’s short-lived “Marxist Quarterly” journal? Only been able to find No. 3 online. Thanks in advance!

Also the insight in Eugen Leviné’s “We communists are dead men on leave”—not nihilism or resignation, but refusal of every return to normal, resumption the wrong life. Communists are “dead men on leave” because “life does not live.” When it does, it won’t need communists anymore.

this is why Marx defends when the communards set the city on fire in the last days of the Paris Commune: if the murderers will indeed take back the city, light the flames inside the walls you’ve defended yourselves. let them retake nothing

In which we go ham on “dynamei-on” and “kata to dynaton.” Learn what these hieroglyphics mean below! The materialist line from Avicenna to Marx makes manifest the incomplete yet humanly actionable reality due to the potent nature of matter!

I am suddenly furious that we never got to see Stephen Jay Gould writing for Marvel

Sarah Pickman@sarahmpicks.bsky.social

I'm behind on sharing some of the articles from the latest issue of Endeavour! First is Zyg Furmaniuk's fascinating look at Stephen Jay Gould's lifelong engagement with comics, including a collaboration with Marvel that never came to pass: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

One of my favorite games Planescape core question is “what changes the nature of man?” And despite the game telling you it is an open-ended ordeal, it nonetheless has an answer: regret.

The liberal Zionists capacity for evil is actually staggering, and the rapidity of the right-wing shift with defenses of Mamdani are pathetic. Work for the good with the whole in mind. From there, keep your mind in hell, and despair not.

Got a good follow-up question re: the claim “anti-anti-imperialists” would likely make that their motive is more “a desire for adherence to communist politics” than a rejection of violence as such, & this was my response

James Crane@jamescrane.bsky.social

Despite what the “anti-anti-imperialists” who claim the tradition today would have you believe, orthodox critical theory was actually, as Horkheimer wrote in Twilight, all about utter contempt for the “vacuous pacifism which condemns a colonial war & a prison revolt in equal measure for ‘violence.’”

My final postdoc project is out today in Nature! We show microbes co-migrated with humans out of Africa; three independent methods agree, and timing matches archaeological / genetic evidence (Fig. 4c). Seeing Fig. 4c for 1st time was one of my most memorable "eureka" moments! doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Horkheimer from the same: Never trust someone “who becomes a human being only when tears are to be shed for a Tsar” &, “learning of the nexus of imperialist world politics, [European] prisons, & colonial terrors, flies into rage—but [first & most] at who exposed, not authored it.”
