New on The Dig: Confronting Labor's Crisis w/ Micah Uetricht & Chris Brooks It’s no surprise to our listeners that the US labor movement has long been in serious crisis - but we might soon be hitting a point of no return, after which the revival of organized labor might not be possible.

Excited to share this long-brewing episode of @thedigradio.bsky.social. Got to nerd out about climate catastrophe and insurance — and the possibility of better public models — with @moira.bsky.social, @madisoncondon.bsky.social, and @dwallacewells.bsky.social thedigradio.com/podcast/insu...

Two weeks ago, we swept municipal elections in Providence, RI. It’s the latest and a truly spectacular victory for the US left and will allow my city to become a real innovation hub for progressive solutions to the housing crisis, including rent stabilization and social housing.

New on The Dig: Winning Providence w/ Ben Shanahan On September 9th, primary voters in The Dig’s home of Providence, Rhode Island, nominated Democratic Socialist David Morales for mayor, defeating incumbent Mayor Brett Smiley. And this week, we're taking a victory lap.

This is a tremendous piece from start to finish, with so many quotable lines in between. An essential read for folks in Rhode Island and beyond.

In @dissentmag.bsky.social, I look at years of patient organizing around labor and housing that reshaped politics in Providence, feeding into the campaigns that lifted @davidmoralespvd.bsky.social and council allies like Miguel Youngs to victory last week. dissentmagazine.org/online_artic...

Before @danieldenvir.bsky.social helped sweep elections across Providence, we worked through the backlog of listener questions for the Dig, which mostly asked about the nuts and bolts of socialist transition. We - or at least I - dutifully ducked them, but hopefully in a way that's interesting

New on The Dig: Mailbag! with Ben Mabie You asked for it and we've delivered - albeit a bit late, our apologies. Today, we're releasing our first mailbag episode, packed with questions from you - our beloved listeners. pod.fo/e/5ebd27

Normally they wait until you win a prize or finish a book before getting posed questions like this. But happy to answer @danieldenvir.bsky.social's prompt: 'why are you like this?'

We asked Dig senior advisor @yesnomabie.bsky.social about seven things that shaped his politics. Listen to Ben on our most recent episode, Mailbag! pod.fo/e/5ebd27

providential voters: "sounds good to me, motherfucker"

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley released an attack ad trying to demonize me as a socialist extremist. It’s a desperate effort to blunt the momentum behind David Morales. Please donate DavidMoralesPVD.com and help us make Smiley regret his fearmongering, red-baiting campaign.

Another banger from @thedigradio.bsky.social The same companies that jack up your premiums due to weather disasters driven by climate change are turning around and investing your money in the fossil fuel industries that are driving climate change. Capitalism will kill us all for profit.

How wonderful... another attack ad from incumbent Providence Mayor Brett Smiley’s campaign, this one titled “Full Control.” When your campaign’s message is built on scaring our neighbors instead of focusing on your vision for the next four years in our beautiful capital city, that says a lot. 🙄

I know I recommend a lot of podcasts/other media, but if you take up any rec, do make it this one. I'm on ep. 6 and, so far, have been blown away – an enormous amount of thoughtful work, drawing from wonderful guests' deep expertise, all guided by Daniel's careful framing and probing questions.

We just completed Nusantara, @thedigradio.bsky.social's 8-part series on the history of Indonesia. The fourth largest country is barely understood in the West and yet has decisively shaped the world: from Dutch colonialism to third world revolution to US-backed mass anti-communist genocide. 1/
