Hello bluesky algorithm! 👋 How do you work if my timeline is mainly about... 🗼 Japan (living in Tokyo 10+years) 🍡 Showa Japan (retro atmosphere is the best) 📷 Photography 🕹️ Games 👴 Retro games! 💻 Game Dev 👨‍💻 Web dev 🏎️ Cars (GR86) 🏁 Sim Racing Let's connect and rebuild what Xwitter broke...

I feel super stuck on designing a system that allows me to create relatively complex cutscenes. I can't believe most games do it so "easily" 😂 While it could be super simple in terms of RPG Maker a lot of atomic actions laid in the correct order and timing, as an engineer this feels super fragile!

I was thinking of setting up a laptop for Godot development (and other kind of development) with Linux. What distro do you recommend? I was planning to get plain Fedora to change from Ubuntu, unless I found a better one, but it's been a while :3 (note: I have a server with debian via ssh)

I'm testing the idea of having muffled dialogues: 2 defined ranges of hearing: Clear/muffled hearing. - The muffled dialogues garbles the text based on the settings shown in my debug tool. - Anything beyond the 2nd range is lost and not shown in the screen. #indiedev #solodev #indiegame

There’s only 10 days until our game, Danchi Days comes out!!! 🌱 We’re working right up until the end, time has been going so fast~ here are some screenshots from our game trailer! 💫 If you haven’t yet, please wishlist us on steam! store.steampowered.com/app/3107530/...

And demos were supposed to be the action having the most impact to sell indie games... 😭 Feels like a lost war before starting it

The fact that we have to be afraid to market our games because of AI theft is a condemnation of every executive who has pushed for this cancer in our industry and art form. www.pcgamer.com/gaming-indus...

Just thinking out loud about something that's been on my mind for months... It feels like "everyone" opposes games using AI-generated art, but people seem much more OK with AI-assisted coding. Why is that?

But isn't the same thing happening with code? Anyone can write code, but software engineers spend years gaining experience, designing systems, making them maintainable, and ensuring different components work together. Now AI can generate code with a single prompt.

So why is one more socially acceptable than the other? If the core issue is AI being trained on people's work without their consent, shouldn't the same concerns apply to both? It feels a bit hypocritical, doesn't it? Just thinking out loud.

Wasn't one of the main arguments against AI-generated art that it was trained on human artists' work without their consent? Artists spend years honing their skills and perfecting their craft, only to see the value of those skills diminished by AI.

The debug menu keeps growing... options, tabs... But better than this, I really want to show what it actually controls! So simple and yet, so fun to create effects! Writing all these effects is making me go back to the ages of GPU programming at the university! #gamedev #indiegame #godot #solodev

As I said, since I have some free time this month, I'm trying new things... Today I'm showing a debug menu for a game prototype that opens in a new window and allows changing stuff very easily, graphically and without having to deal with dozens of keyboard shortcuts. #gamedev #indiegame #godot

So happy I went with Godot

NEW: Unity is automatically opting Asset Store creators into supporting its generative AI platform, Unity Spark, via a process called 'itemisation.' One dev told me the process should be "opt-in instead of opt-out" and said they are firmly against genAI. www.verticalslice.news/unity-opting...

I think my superpower is having the people walking in front of me to suddenly stop or do a 180° turn. It happens to me easily 2-4 times per day. Still don't know how people don't bump into others more often around here.

Damn. Very tempted to buy The Sims Legacy Collection. I was like 16 or 17 when it came out. The Sims 2 also is tempting as they include every expansion! Should I get them to never play? Although giving money to EA is not in my to-do list tbh...

I'm a bit sad today because I saw a game released on Aug 1st VERY similar to one of the two games I was developing. Like, 100% the exact same concept, and very well executed (visually at least, haven't tried it yet). So... dump the project? keep it for the future? for now, just cry in a corner

Creating this no-ai indie games starter pack is one of the best things I ever did on BlueSky. Lots of great developers in here, making things with their own hands, some of whom I might not have found otherwise!! go.bsky.app/78u8M6Y

Uncle Joe‘s alternative game creator starter pack! Discover novel and alternative game creators and publishers. A must have for the n00b alternative game creator starting out on Bluesky. go.bsky.app/CC7rujy #games #gaming #boardgames

To be honest, I haven't advanced much. Not even got the full layout yet... (not even half of it...) But also, I have like, zero time after work from one year ago 😭 I might have to outsource it? #gamedev #ineedtoleavemyjob

Went the other day to take some quick reference photos for the pixel art I'm drawing. Thought I might share a few. The story of the current game happens in this kind of ambient, in case you are interested. #gamedev #japan #reference #hanpeki

I wonder if people still have interest in rogue likes. Like, the real rogue likes, not just random levels. As in rogue, angband, or more moderns like Izuna, Etrian Odyssey, Shiren the Wanderer, Dungeons of Dredmor (so good)... The few I know didn't do very well.

I'm so tired of seeing AI-related commercials on the train... AI活用法 - a book for "having an extra salary" "AI、チームで使えますか?" - are you using AI properly in your team? Man, I understand everyone wants to jump on the trend but... (And I know Japan's adoption is still slow) So tiring 😭

I wonder who decided in Godot that handling the Input system in a different order than the rendering was a good idea. This means an element behind another could receive a click before it gets consumed by the node appearing in front of it .. No wonder everyone is confused with the UI system in Godot.

Note: I understand the design priorities are different (game loop vs event system) but still, having events work like a broadcast makes thing super hard by just relying on the node positions for the processing order, specially when reusing scenes inside another scenes 🥲
