I keep coming back to saying this, but "none of us is free until all of us are free" isn't just a theory about power, it's a statement of the threat to humanity posed by our tolerance for injustice against others.

This level of centralised command & control has me pretty convinced that I wouldn’t be able to teach in the UK. Seems like a huge, centralised middle finger to neurodivergent teachers. Disability provisions? Reasonable accommodations? Nope. Slide 1, cold call, slide 2, turn & talk, slide 3, notes.

Sue Cowley@suecowley.bsky.social

We know that some level of agency and autonomy is important for motivation and wellbeing at work. If teachers are being told what curriculum to use, what page of a PPT to be on at what time, and exactly how they must manage the class (cold call, etc.), excuse me but where is the space for agency? 🤷‍♀️

Really straightforward thread on why we shouldn’t use “biological male/female” when talking about trans folks.

GDwarble@gdwarble.bsky.social

I've increasingly seen the terms "Biological [male/female]" used to talk about trans people, even by people trying to be supportive, and I wanted to get my thoughts down about that. The tl;dr is that the terms are slurs and factually wrong, and pushing back when you see them is appreciated.

Omelas already exists: no need to build it or choose it. We already live here –in the narrow, foul, dark prison we let our ignorance, fear, and hatred build for us and keep us in, here in the splendid, beautiful city of life...

I love my boys and try to be a good dad. If they go anywhere near the pervert glasses I will consider myself to be a complete failure as a parent. These devices should not exist and anyone who has them needs to learn very quickly from the rest of us that their use will *not* be tolerated.

I don't think people understand the extent to which this has been a decade plus long billionaire funded campaign (obviously Thiel is involved). We've tried to ring the alarm about these eugenicists but it is too easy for them to get parroted by the mainstream media. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t...

Ma’a Nonu performing a solo haka at age 44 before the ABs game vs the Sharks. Any All Black younger than 24 was not even born when he made bis international debut. Epic. Almost mythological. Can’t imagine what it must have felt like to be on the field.

Ben Coles@bencoles.bsky.social

Ma'a Nonu (at 44) doing the haka on his own against the All Blacks. It's great stuff.

So, rather than planting a flag and defending trans rights you disseminate and bloviate about “protecting” women. Well played, UK Labour. Slow clap.

Nice to see the AFP’s Social Coercion squad busy trying to jail folks who send emails to their MP asking for something, get the thing, thank the MP, then stop emailing. Ain’t cohesion grand.

More than doubling international competitions, moving to debt financing and a Kushner company to run commercial operations. And no mention of women’s football. Abolish FIFA. Forever. It’s time to start over with football administration.

The idea that social media is bad for teens is a textbook manufactured moral panic that is not based in reality in the slightest, and it's been pushed entirely by people who have a strong reason to want to end anonymity online and exert much stronger control over the speech of marginalized people.

Thoughtful thread from one who reviews synthetic text infected academic writing as part of his job. It’s bleak. The sooner the AI bubble bursts, the better.

Ben Williamson@benpatrickwill.bsky.social

The anatomy of an AI-supported academic article is becoming more apparent. I desk reviewed ~70 manuscripts this week for our journal. Reckon 20ish had significant AI assistance. On top of hundreds of others recently I'm starting to see patterns. Are other editors are seeing the same or similar? 1/

Hmm. A rich Catholic organisation appears to have engaged in financial and/or real estate fraud in order to cheat abuse victims out of compensation payments. Not sure how to describe how I feel about this, but it certainly isn’t ‘shocked’.

Every year now there’s at least one book about how no one is heterosexual anymore. It’s amazing how much mileage you can get out of a ludicrously false premise. The issue is not that heterosexuality is uncool, the “issue” is that women finally have choices

AI is mainly championed by ppl who bluffed their way through life, never understanding how anything works. When AI promised to offload thinking from humans, they went "Finally, we can ALL drop the act!" only to be met with blank stares. So it's either embrace AI or admit they are failures as people.

If Labor’s NDIS cuts are to reduce “fraud and waste” then I humbly suggest that throwing folks with disabilities and their careers under the bus is perhaps not the most efficient way to do so…

I’m on the committee of a local football club. If we ran the Tigers this way we’d be chased out of town. Interesting that these clowns are allowed to let their lazy prejudices and a brutal neoliberal framing destroy tertiary education and my alma mater. Oh well. Community football goes on…

My day job is at a rural branch of a public library, and we have a Pride display. Yesterday I was at the desk when a man came in. Fifties, maybe, or sixties. Plaid shirt, mesh trucker cap, suspenders. He went up to the display and just stood there for a long moment. Then he came up to the desk. 🧵 1/
