a UK food delivery service experimented with AI-generated images for restaurant menu items that lacked pictures. they stopped when customers reported seeing some unusual new dishes. a tiger-prawn dish became a bowl containing actual tiger cubs. friends, i think the tech may not be ready.

i think the most fascinating thing here is that the ai did the work of reasoning that their paws would be wet if tiger paws were in a bowl of soup, but did not consider the insanity of the entire concept in the context of its task

there's a Maine Coon kitten named Erebus Anomaly. he's in Wisconsin. he recently received recognition for having more toes than any other documented living cat. 29 toes. that's an awful lot of toes. like, wtf. i'm over here expected to make do with 10 toes, like some kind of schmuck.

Egypt has constructed a flagpole standing more than 200 meters tall. it's the world's tallest. unfortunately, it can't fly a flag. the winds are too strong up there, you see. i think a lot of people are going to make fun of this. but not me. i think it is an important monument to hubris.

last month, a cat named Rolo survived a medical emergency after receiving a blood transfusion from Gin, a cocker spaniel belonging to the attending veterinarian. Rolo recovered and they're both doing great now. what a hero. what a comrade. workers' solidarity transcending centuries of enmity.

This is Benjamin. He showed up at the Post Office and became a mascot for our country post office. One day he was very sick and needed a blood transfusion and recovered. I think he was the most loved employee there!

A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.

sleeping while his head is up. a generational talent. i'd put his sleeping ability up against anyone, anywhere. in a cultural environment increasingly hostile to expertise, it is comforting to see such unapologetic mastery of craft.

on October 14, a black bear entered the Mammoth Lakes Library at 6 am. it was the 100th anniversary of the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. the bear went directly to the employees' food supplies. i know what you're thinking. the answer is yes. he ate a pot of honey. this was a pilgrimage.

Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh was first published, a black bear made its way inside the Mammoth Lakes Library branch of the Mono County Free Libraries before opening hours — and, in a tribute no one asked for, went straight for the honey. Director of Libraries, Josef Bopp, shared that the bear entered the library at approximately 6:10 a.m, well before public opening at 10:00am. Upon entering, the bear went straight for the staff snack supply, where it helped itself to peanut butter, a selection of peach cups, a pawful of cookies and — of course — one jar of honey. Satiated, the bear then took a full tour of the library, perusing the new releases and inspecting the reference desk before, evidently content with its visit, letting itself out and departing for the day. Remarkably, no damage was reported. No shelves were toppled and no books were harmed, though the honey jar has not been returned at time of publication. “While we love an enthusiastic patron, and we understand the excitement of the centennial,” said Bopp, “we do remind patrons- and perhaps more importantly our bears- that snacks are not part of the circulating collection.” Winnie-the-Pooh was first published on October 14, 1926, introducing readers to a “Bear of Very Little Brain” with a very large appetite for honey. One hundred years later, the timing of the curious bears visit seems more than a coincidence. The library invites the community (human members only) to celebrate the centennial by visiting any of the seven #library of the #monocounty Free Libraries for a copy of Winnie-the-Pooh, or related bear titles! *On A Serious Note* Pooh may be cuddly, but #mammothlakes bears are wild. Residents and visitors are reminded to: • Keep a safe distance and never approach or feed a bear • Use bear-resistant trash containers and keep car doors and windows closed • Report bear encounters to Mammoth Lakes Police 760-932-7549, option 7. Or 911 in an emergency. As Pooh himself might say, it’s best to think, think, think before getting t | Mono County Free LibrariesOn the very day the world marks 100 years since A.A. researchers gave raccoons puzzle boxes with marshmallows. even after eating the reward, the raccoons kept solving puzzles. Chancleta is appalled. dress this up how you will: these raccoons are embracing unpaid labor. they must stop being wreckers and develop some class consciousness.

there are few if any films that would not be improved by including the kenny loggins' banger "i'm alright" in a montage of some sort. for instance, "chinatown." great movie. but what if it had a montage where jack is trying on suits to "i'm alright"?

bullies on tv and in movies will be all "awww, look at the baby, he's scared!" and, like, yeah? you're eight large teenagers surrounding a small child. that seems like a rational and fairly unimpeachable response to the situation. what are we doing here

and they recognize this on some level, because, presumably, one reason they're bullying in a group is to guarantee that they don't encounter this exact dynamic in reverse

people keep making movies where the premise is "it's kind of like a man but it looks like a monstrous freak but it's nice and sexy and doesn't abuse the woman so it's basically the most romantic thing ever" and men keep not getting it.
