Haven’t posted in awhile. But I noticed an ad for a podcast ad blocker. This means we are officially in the next era from the previous one: the era of the adblocker blocker, preceded by the era of adblockers. Podcast adblocking was the inevitable third era after adblockblocking.

Stopped reading bogost’s ferrari AI piece dead in its tracks when he asserted teenagers don’t go anywhere exposing his stupid bias. My kids go anywhere they want on public transpo.

An Election-Denier Epstein-Classer running the Fed is pure Trumpism

The biggest mastodon instance is getting hit with DDoS this morning, but as a fedi user, you would hardly notice. There are still plenty of posts from this instance federating around during the downtime and the feed is running fairly normal. Yes, it’s insufferable but also resilient AF.

Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.

The same reason why Bluesky is vulnerable to outages is the same reason why Bluesky provides *reach* whereas Mastodon is vulnerable to valid criticism because its architecture does not provide the same *reach* but it is invincible to network outages for that reason. It’s a paradox.

This is one reason why I suspect that slopulism of all types structurally tends toward being at least antisemitism-adjacent, even when the individual political elites who are pushing it are not themselves antisemitic. (Some of them might even be Jews.)

Joel S.@joelhs.bsky.social

Antisemitism is structurally necessary for Elon Musk's politics, because he wants to brand himself as the insurgent populist fighting the elite, but as the world's wealthiest person, he needs a definition of "elite" that is not strictly rooted in wealth or corporate ownership.

The obvious answer here is that the student protest movement was broadly smeared as anti-semitic and aligned with terrorists, and a variety of institutions from government, media and the universities acted as if that smear was true, threatening, suspending, expelling and even deporting students.

As President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war on Iran with Israel entered into its second month, some Democratic officials were looking around and wondering: Where are the anti-war protests this time around? And why are college campuses so quiet? @lauren-egan.bsky.social takes a look.

This is some of the most important reporting to come out of the war on Iran so far. And it's nice to see CBS doing it, i.e good reminder that bad leadership doesn't mean that every journalist there instantly stops doing their job.

I am not one of those who believes that history repeats, but consider the following from Herodotus: the Oracle at Delphi told the fabulously wealthy King Croesus that if he invaded Persia he would "destroy a great empire." Croesus invaded and lost--the empire he destroyed was his own.

Typically, international students subsidize undergraduate domestic students who receive need-based tuition aid but at the graduate level, domestic and international students compete for the same merit based tuition awards. Just clarifying this nuance since this topic is making the rounds.
