There was once a rabbit who dreamt of wild adventure, of liners sailing to Brazil, carrot fields in Norfolk, creameries in Normandy. I have a small life, he said. But before he died, he looked up at his beloved human & he realised that a life of love is never slight, not at all.

There’s something kind of beautifully elegant about this post showing up right under a @garthgreenwell.bsky.social post for his Relevance of Art lecture.

"I was told," said the princess, "that the point of fairy tales is not to tell children dragons exist, but that they can be killed." "Oh, absolutely!" said the dragon. "You agree?" "These rich, selfish, powerful, cruel beings that need killing, did you think they're literally dragons, princess?"

Not gonna RS the thread that made me think about this (you've likely already seen it, or a similar one) BUT Every person I know who has cut off or gone low contact with a parent took YEARS of agonizing and trying to make things work because damn that's their PARENTS.

I know everybody on here is supposed to be anti-AI, but good goddam is the substrate of our society shifting around on us. It's just so deeply unsettling. ...and yes, in one sense, I do understand that it's a bit in the nature of things to change and unsettle us. Still...

We’ve spent many, many hours over the past few months searching the rock pools of Cornwall for a rainbow sea slug. Today, we finally found one! Absolutely worth all the time we’ve spent - it was truly breathtaking.

Man...just one of those weeks, I guess, but I've just generally been out of sorts and unsettled. 2026-style Weltschmerz or something like that, I guess, mixed in with a regular daily life...

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

I’m really fucking tired of all of these powerful people telling their generally powerless (on an individual level) constituents that only the constituents can fix this mess.

What's the best way to find a new business mentor? No one knows what I do or seems all that interested in learning about how what I do is different. I end up with useless advice like "increase cash flow."

This is brought to you by the people who believe that only men should be in the service, and no service wife should have a job. It's absolutely going to negatively affect readiness, and it's going to substantially harm many military families. It is something that, in fact, reduces lethality.

Today in "this administration totally supports The Troops", service members are getting notified that their children will no longer be provided with transportation from day care to elementary school. When your work day starts at 6:15 AM, that's a problem.

Overnight, a masked bandit broke into our kitchen. Armed with opposable thumbs, he proceeded to sample everything on offer. I’d just visited the farmers market, so the menu was extensive. I can now share a highly specific peer-reviewed list of what this particular raider did & did not enjoy. 🧵

People who are suddenly deported to countries they haven’t been to for years — or, in some cases, have NEVER been to — are incredibly vulnerable. We are going to be reading stories like this for years. God have mercy on their three little girls.

If you missed Dorothy in the NYRB annual sale, here’s another chance! Not a recent purchase for me, but I’d highly recommend Pip Adam’s New Animals…just an odd, strange read that’s stuck with me for a long time.

Dorothy, a publishing project@dorothyproject.bsky.social

The sale is in honor of our having had to reprint nearly a quarter of our titles in the past year . . . and printing is $$$! Any older Dorothy gems you've been meaning to pick up? Well, they're ALL currently in stock . . .

I finished Everybody's Perfect by Jo Walton yesterday & felt kind of the same as this review (which I read after I read the book). I know she loves world building. She writes about it a ton, but this felt almost like only world building, albeit well done. ancillaryreviewofbooks.org/2026/06/30/a...

I can't keep myself from stopping what I'm doing and doing a little bit of a shoulder sway at my desk whenever Ruff Ryders Anthem shows up on my itunes spin. Takes me solidly back to early high school...I can't even tell if it's good, it's too much a part of my musical DNA.
