Sixty years after the Voting Rights Act became a landmark law against racial discrimination, legal challenges heading to the Supreme Court could curtail its remaining protections for minority voters.

60 years ago today, the Voting Rights Act became a landmark law against racial discrimination in elections. My latest @npr.org story is about the new threats facing the law’s remaining protections for minority voters
Still fighting for this
Everyone in DC knows that if you want to hide something, announce it on a Friday in August. Better yet, make it nearly impossible to track down. That's exactly what SCOTUS did last week. But the news is too staggering to hide for long: SCOTUS has decided it's time to destroy the Voting Rights Act.

Hope. Mamdani’s success (NYC’s success!) is much needed good news at a time when good news is in short supply. My plea to Blue and Left leaders is to study and learn from his campaign, the inclusivity and solidarity. Dissent is achieved when we get in the same line, together.
A Muslim son of immigrants might become mayor of NYC in part because he cross endorsed and supported a Jewish candidate and Black candidate, and vice versa. It's a beautiful American story for the rest of us. A nightmare for all the right people ;) It's so New York.

Mainstream media sent the National Guard to LA almost as surely as Trump, Miller, Hegseth and their little band of evil did #RecordEverything
Reports and video show flash-bangs thrown into piles of debris just before a car caught fire, strongly suggesting it was law enforcement, not protesters, who sparked it. More details are coming. Don’t let them control the narrative. Thank you to everyone sharing footage, always record everything.

This response to @charlotteclymer.bsky.social,“This is one of the harder weeks.Take a breath.Things will get better” We want it to be true, need it to be true.So many of us feel so beaten down already. Don’t isolate!Gather together to do what we can. Believe in this world, believe in the future.
No one knows this. If the American people stand up en masse and form a coalition for continuing life on this planet it may. youtube.com/shorts/RBpRb...

No one experiencing the tragedy of a miscarriage should be arrested, much less abandoned in jail for 5 months with a $100k bond. But that’s exactly what happened to Mallori Patrice Strait in Texas. Women, particularly women of color, in this country are no longer allowed dignity even in extreme loss
