Here's a drawing I did of the Thing. You have to let go of the 'rules'. The head is a boulder sitting on another boulder. No neck. The brow is more than a brow. The nose less than a nose.

Some days, like today, I want to enjoy my morning coffee piping hot. On those days, I microwave water to boiling in the cup I intend to use, as my coffee brews. That way, I don't lose temperature by pouring my coffee into a cold cup.

Today is my 14th wedding anniversary. My wife and I were both those "Yeah I'm never gettin' married" types. And here we are, having been together 16 years in total. I got married at 41 years old. I'm now a husband, father, and happily (gratefully even) boring suburbanite. It's funny how life is.

Favorite film in haiku: Say, "Kiss Me." I can't. Say, "Kiss Me." Kiss Me. "Again." Too bad she won't live.

My first 5 TTRPG in the order I played them, as best I can remember... 1. D&D, unknown edition 2. Boot Hill 3. Top Secret 4. Traveller 5. One of any number of homebrews my friends and I made in the early 80s for Star Wars, Tron, Time Bandits, and so on...

How did I get into TTRPGs? Happened upon some kids playing at my grade school. One boy handed me a character and invited me to sit down. I was immediately hooked, and have remained so for life.

Whatever may be said of the relation of the sexes there is no man who loves a woman that does not desire to come to her for the renewal of his courage, for the cutting asunder of his difficulties. That will be the mainspring of his desire for her. - Ford Madox Ford, The Good Soldier #SundaySentence

Eisner interviewed Joe Kubert, and Joe is so gracious about the obstacles in comics publishing. It's just one interview but Eisner usually got through to the real personality of the artist-- and Joe didn't kvetch. At the same time, he Did listen. He acted on things Eisner said, after that interview.

Joe Kubert was one of those artists, as in “I can’t mess with your stuff, you’re Joe Kubert.” Although I have no clue what editorial headaches he had to deal with.

Do y'all think @umlauthuth.bsky.social did a good job?

accident in a used bookstore. I wasn't looking for a minimalist FRPG, but it really captivated me. It's essentially a 1-page RPG, but the book has several dungeons, a hexcrawl, a setting, extra-planar rules, solo rules, domain stuff, bestiary, etc. It's just packed with stuff.

This. AI shills want to remove your ability to know (and therefore to choose). Just like Right wingers wanted a Twitter where they couldn't be blocked or ignored. The public chooses organic art, and progressive ideals. Billionaires and right-wingers want to remove your choice.

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

Sure, Marvel had the mighty Conan, but DC put out a lot of REALLY good sword & sorcery stuff back in the Bronze Age.

Simon has lots of experience in several different facets of the TTTRPG hobby. His advice is usually very, very good.

#TTRPGTHOUGHTS 1 What’s the best way to release a bunch of advice about running #TTRPGs at cons? I’ve finished writing a little book about how to a TTRPG game at a con. 18,000 words of “No shit Sherlock” stuff that most of us here take for granted. It’s proof-read for spelling etc. 1

My tabletop RPG collection (which isn't really huge, compared to some I've seen) has become big enough that when I walk into my office, it smells like books. I can't really express how awesome that is, but I know some of you can relate.
