New Horizons is now *three days away* from shutting off its two heliophysics instruments, simply because NASA has not provided the $2M in funding it had promised to the mission last year or this year. There is no science basis for shutting these off. Our earlier coverage:

As a long-time listener of the Mindscape podcast, my respect and admiration for physicist / natural philosopher @seanmcarroll.bsky.social has only grown after reading this story about three prominent scientists who said no to Epstein.

Laura Helmuth@laurahelmuth.bsky.social

This is a nice contrast to all the awful behavior confirmed through the Epstein files. Proud of @jenlucpiquant.bsky.social & @seanmcarroll.bsky.social for picking up on the sexism & charlatanism right away.

Why EREVs might be the sleeper hit of the EV transition. Now dominating China’s full-size SUV market, extended-range electric vehicles saw 1.5 million global sales in 2025. They may be arriving in North American soon. Read on: buff.ly/Md3OUde #EREVs #PHEV #BYD #LiAuto

Much clearer optical satellite imagery today from @planet.com shows the landslide that resulted in the collapse of the Hongqi bridge in Sichuan.

Dr Dan Shugar 🇨🇦@watershedlab.bsky.social

It's extremely tough to tell, but these two @esa.int Sentinel2 images might (?) show the landslide that caused the Hongqi Bridge to collapse a few days ago. The images are from Nov 9 and Nov 12, with the latter being very poor quality, but shows a distinct change on the W side of the bridge.

🚨 AWS is facing a major outage, and it’s causing ripple effects across the web. ✅ The good news? WHC services are up and running strong as we don't use AWS! 💪 If you're running into issues with your website or tools, it could be due to third-party apps or services that rely on AWS.

Colleagues in ocean science academia: 🧪🦑🌎 I am working on the section of my marine biology career advice book about applying to graduate school. I have lots to say here from both my own experience and years of teaching this stuff, but I’d welcome your input on any or all of this if you’re willing.

Map projections make compromises between accurately representing either area, angles, or distances. Tissot indicatrices (blue circles & ellipses) inform us visually about map distortions. Standard parallels here are at 50°N and 70°N for the Albers and Lambert projections. 🧪 #maps #mapping #Canada

Distortions in area are indicated by variations across the map in the area enclosed by Tissot indicatrices. Distortions in angles are indicated by departures from circularity of the Tissot indicatrices. I will provide more technical details about these maps in an upcoming blog post. #mapping
