People forget that artisanal cheesecake craftsmen were rendered obsolete by the rise of the Cheesecake Factory in the 16th century. Roving bands of unemployed cheesecake workers would sabotage industrial cheesecake ovens in protest. You can read about it in *The Cheesecake and The Worms.*

Obama: "That well-known evil empire Canada. That historical adversary of ours. Canada! *laughs* It's your neighbor. It's a few minutes' drive over the bridge! These are the people who gave us Martin Short and maple syrup. They are the nicest people! And someone we've gotten them so mad."

Buckle up, friends. This is going to be a thread. A thread of thanksgiving, my gratitude for the people of the city and the province I love. The people who stood united to defeat a dark and narrow vision of Alberta's future. The people who stood in defence of Canada. 🧵 #Alberta #Canada #yeg

“Slop jockey” is my new favourite term

Casey S. Pumpkins 🎃@caseyexplosion.bsky.social

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

The 🧪⚒️ peer review system is broken: 1 paper has been stalled since a reviewer failed to submit their review a month ago; 1 has been sitting on editor's desk for more than a month after we revised it; 1 has only now had an editor assigned after being submitted 2 months ago.

Climate change has stopped the next Ice Age For thousands of years, Earth’s orbital cycles favoured cooler northern summers, the kind of conditions that help ice sheets grow. Then GHG emissions changed the balance reversing ~2,000 years of ice-sheet expansion. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Jeffrey Rath and Mitch Sylvestre were terminated from their roles with the Alberta Prosperity Project "with cause" in September. This is particularly strange, since both men were at the group's referendum watch party and spoke to media on its behalf.

On 26 Aug Nepal was hit by the Rasuwa disaster w/ >1400 deaths & >5000 missing. Less than 10d ago another permafrost rock avalanche resulted in flooding on Budhi Gandaki. We need to re-think risk analysis & management in cryosphere mountain regions. @nature.com 🧪⚒️ www.nature.com/articles/d41...
