🧵 Minneapolis early voting thru Monday. 7 full early voting days to go, but precincts in blue at/above 2022 *total* early vote. Orange = below ‘22’s total , but again, full week to go. Only 1 precinct (7-10 in Stevens Square) is below 70% of ‘22. Pace seems certain to smash 2018 midterm record (52k)

I could see them doing this to Klob because "what the hell, we're behind and some rich guy is paying for it." But I thought this was a close race - pretty dangerous and dumb for Tiffany's camp.

1. A group formed last week called “Progressive Alliance of Wisconsin” is attacking David Crowley, the state’s Democratic nominee for governor, with hundreds of thousands in attack mailers. A Popular Information investigation has linked the effort to GOP operatives.

This is what counts as a straight line in St Paul

Maplehood United@maplehoodunited.bsky.social

I just think it's neat that Prosperity/ Phalen/ Pennsylvania/ Marion/ Kellogg/ 3rd St is one continuous winding 12 mile boulevard/ road around St Paul. It even used to go all the way to WBL before White Bear Ave/ Hwy 36 construction and 3M campus in Maplewood cut it off.

My home town once called itself the "Mink Capital of the World", but the entire industry there was wiped out by Covid-19 in just a matter of weeks back in 2020. They should take animal disease outbreaks a little seriously maybe?

NEW: A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a Utah mink farm for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But officials haven’t acted — instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade.

Trivia: Barnes & Nobles' first-ever “superstore” outside New York was 14,000 square feet in a strip mall near Rosedale shopping center in Roseville, Minnesota. - from the Mpls.-St. Paul Business Journal.

Y'know what I was doing on this date seven years ago? Photographing and shooting video of the opening of a 155-year old iron coffin under the auspices of the MN State Archaeologist at the old Hennepin County morgue. An autopsy was also performed on the corpse.

With their permission, an autopsy was performed because the deceased was known to have died of tuberculosis, and there was interest in determining if the strain of TB was different or the same as what is prevalent today. Turned out to be the same.

No, I'm not gonna post pictures of the deceased person or autopsy, interesting as it was. I will tell you that the iron coffin did it's job and the body was in an amazing state of mummified preservation.

The coffin was discovered in Dakota county by a construction crew digging the foundations for a gas station. When that happens, the state archaeologist gets involved. They were able to find the name of the interred person, and find living descendants still living in the state.

I keep seeing these anonymous flyers around my neighborhood and they irritate the fuck out of me Yeah, voting is like recycling in that you should do it if you’re able What a ridiculous waste of resources less than two weeks out from a consequential election

#OnThisDay Oct 17 1988: City leaders eagerly celebrate the demolition of "Block E", a "skid row" strip in the center of Hennepin Ave. Afterward the diverse group of old buildings became a parking lot. 14 years later the grand development in the rendering was only partly, and very badly, realized.

This is what the Hennepin side of block E looked like in 1969 vs the exact spot today. I don't think it's hyperbole to say this is an abject failure of urban renewal. Like today's Nicollet Mall, we keep designing these dehumanizing places, then get baffled why people don't want to to there.

Remembering how excited I was when I randomly encountered the passenger pigeon mural in Cincinnati four years ago. Based on a painting by John Ruthven, Martha - the last passenger pigeon who died at the Cincinnati Zoo in 1914 - leads the flock at upper right.

Little known fact: The Gold Medal Flour sign, on the west bank of the Mississippi River, is actually east of the Grain Belt Beer sign, in the middle of the Mississippi River on Nicollet Island.
