Exclusive: @wsj.com's John McCormick continues his free PR work the Tafoya campaign, following up his detached-from-reality puff piece with a nothing burger hit job on Tafoya's opponent based on info spoon fed to him by the Tafoya campaign. www.wsj.com/politics/ele...

wsj.comThe NFL Sideline Reporter Trading Broadcasting for a High-Stakes Senate RunMichele Tafoya is trying to turn a U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota red in a state racked by a welfare fraud scandal.

If we’re gonna nitpick Flanagan for whether or not she is Phi Beta Kappa (which, apparently she IS), this headline is a lie. Tafoya left sideline reporting years ago. Let’s not pretend that she risked it all to run for the Senate on a whim. She’s been methodically working towards this for years.

Life lesson--when a bunch of GOP apparats come to you with oppo research that they wish to launder through you, you have to actually do your own research/reporting. Otherwise you are the one who ends up looking like a fool.

You're a f'n newspaper with supposed journalists. And you can't pick up a f'n phone and make some calls to find out what is true? Instead, you launder Republican BS as a legitimate story? Are you f'n serious? I'd say do better, but I feel this is probably the WSJ can do. F'n pathetic.

why do you guys lie one way about democrats but then you lie a completely different way about republicans? its odd. why do you do that? can someone respond to me pretending its not on purpose and you're just stupid or something? I love it when i get told 'we're just very very stupid'

Even if this weren't inaccurate and misleading, this would be embarrassing in the current political environment. But it is inaccurate and misleading to boot.

The Musk/Trump Ukraine piece was probably a leak from the WH or Musk or both. This is coverage on the same level as the NY Post.

You still keeping this up? Y’all must love the smell of shite on your faces. 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐭. 𝐏𝐞𝐠𝐠𝐲 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧’𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐞 “𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐡𝐢 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐚” 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐚, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫.

Flanagan may be overstating her academic record (10 years ago), but she has served as lieutenant governor and a state house representatives. Those are her qualifications, not her enrollment in Phi Beta Kappa. Meanwhile Tafoya’s qualifications include interviewing football players.

MSNBC has uncovered evidence the Tafoya once told an admissions officer that we President of the Yearbook Club in HS, but we could only verify she participated in the club.

It may be possible that she simply made the claim based on her final gpa? More of an inaccuracy than a lie. Like she was eligible and perhaps remembers that criterion but not the full process?

Fuck off, seriously fuck off. Her opponent planned to leave the state because she was embarrassed of it. She’s only in the race b/c football loving idiots know pretty lady’s name.

any update, shitheads? bsky.app/profile/star...

Hours after the Wall Street Journal published a story questioning Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan’s claim she “graduated Phi Beta Kappa” from the University of Minnesota, the national honor society said that she is a member.

Update: A day after Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan’s Senate campaign said she wasn’t a member of Phi Beta Kappa, her aides said Wednesday that the Democrat had been inducted into the national honor society. A representative of Phi Beta Kappa said the same. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

wsj.comExclusive | Minnesota Senate Candidate, in Reversal, Says She Is a Member of Honor SocietyThe day after her campaign said she couldn’t afford the fees to become member of Phi Beta Kappa, Flanagan said she was a member.

OOOOO @wsj.com What a bombshell bit of reporting. Did you do the same with Musk/Trump and Starshield. All of your bombshell reporting should be viewed with skepticism. It seems you have an agenda and it is not accuracy or democracy.

Love that you're hours late to your own update bsky.app/profile/star...

I don't know what would inspire you to make such a comment, given that 1) Phi Beta Kappa says Flanagan is a member 2) The Wall Street Journal says the PBK membership fee at U of Minn is $99. Whatever your motivations, you are wrong and should delete it.

@thepressbox.bsky.social how does this happen? How does the Murdochs' supposedly "down the middle" political reporting part of the WSJ a) not verify w the actual organization first and b) think whether a candidate graduated Phi Beta Kappa is worthwhile potential "scandal" less than two weeks out?

Bwahahahaha. You fucking clowns. You break a big story about massive corruption in the Administration and then your hack editors and fascist bosses demand some equal time, you cook up the stupidest, most irrelevant story possible and manage to fuck it up by not even making a cursory check.

We get it: you need a counterwieght to all the GOP lying and corruption. If you insist on this course, no matter how trivial the supposed dem transgression, just make sure it's true before publishing.

Heyo... I gotta tip that your reporting is wrong and you still haven't corrected this post. Seems like you are doing this on purpose to help swing voters??

Thanks for the head’s up. I now have no choice but to vote for the other lady who believes the federal government gleefully murdering her own constituents is no problem at all.

Update: you can delete this article and fire whoever wrote it now. Both Phi Beta Kappa and Peggy Flanagan have proven she is a member and has been since 2002 today.

No records do not. Hack Journalism. You ok with employing a rightwing hack that calls himself a journalist? Guess journalistic standards arent a thing with you guys.

With all due respect, you people at the WSJ are trash. Just complete pieces of shit. You could have done what’s known as “journalism” and made a single phone call to Phi Beta Kappa to get an answer, but instead you chose to publish a smear.

Will you be retracting this now that it has been reported elsewhere that your facts are incorrect? I hope so. This is what happens when you rush to publish and fail to do your due diligence. We expected better from you, frankly.

Will the Journal issue a retraction? It is clear that this article was published without the proper due diligence. bsky.app/profile/star...

“I can verify that Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, having been inducted in 2002 at the University of Minnesota,” Amber Cox, associate secretary and chief operating officer of Phi Beta Kappa, said in a statement.

In this case, no, it turns out. bsky.app/profile/star...
