"So...this is goodbye." - Pavel Checkov, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country RIP, Walter Koenig.

Jesse Thorn@jessethorn.bsky.social

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Damn. Looking Glass got the shutdown too? The studio that made Thief. That made System Shock. That‘s… man, the games industry is depressing these days

Seconded. I think about it… often, actually

James B. Jones@jamesbjones.com

Since Looking Glass Studios is on the brain this morning, I just wanna throw out there that, like... if anyone who worked there wanted to maybe leak any playable builds of the Voyager game y'all were workin' on back in the day, like... yeah. That'd be pretty dope.

Cool project today. Performed techromancy and brought my beloved Surface Duo back to life. Okay, it wasn't dead, it was sleeping but Microsoft dropped support in 2022. Community devs have picked up the slack with Duo DE, an Android 16 implementation for it. Oh, how I missed this thing.

I feel like Bacchus would accept this tribute tho???

We shall sit around the fire and tell tales of BioWare's glory

PC Gamer@pcgamer.com

In 1998, Baldur's Gate redefined what a computer RPG—and videogame interpretation of the D&D ruleset—could be. Just two years later, Baldur's Gate 2 expanded on it so much that development nearly ballooned out of control. This is the story of one of the most influential and ambitious RPGs ever made.

Xbox studio closures made me angry. I'm too stunned to feel anything but stunned at the moment. Holy shit. I know BioWare's been hit or miss lately but still. The studio behind Baldur's Gate. Behind friggin' Knights of the Republic. Memorial Neverwinter Nights run coming soon to a PC near me.

Setting aside how Titanic could do a 180 degree turn in 3 minutes: Paxton‘s last campaign appearance is at the Alamo. Trump booked a rally in Waco, where the Branch Davidian cultists died in a fire standing off with feds. And now JD Vance likened present USA to Titanic. Symbolism off the charts.

FactPost@factpostnews.bsky.social

JD Vance on the economy: "You don't turn the Titanic around overnight"

Ah yes. The Trump administration: Where you pay it all and they give you nothing. Those of us in tornado alley and coastal states are gonna have a great time with this...

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

BREAKING: Trump's head of FEMA just told states to prepare to handle disasters on their own. The Trump admin's disaster chief told state officials they must increase their financial reserves and emergency capabilities to handle most disasters on their own — without federal help.

It is amazing to me that Republicans scream about “no good immigrants coming here to destroy us from the inside and destroy the American way of life while also mooching off us hard working folks!” and yet they can’t see the actual no good immigrant doing literally all of that for real this time.

Today in “Xbox has completely lost the plot”…

VGC@videogameschronicle.com

Xbox’s next console, Project Helix, is targeting a 2028 launch and could cost between $1,200 and $1,800, according to a new report, “unless Microsoft decides to subsidize the cost.” www.videogameschronicle.com/news/report-...

Gotta tell ya, the symbolism of both events is hilarious to me. Cult 47 rallying in Branch Davidian country. Incredible

PAXTON: hey we're catching a lot of shit for holding our final rally at the alamo, the site of an infamous Texas doomed last stand TRUMP:

It's a new week, Bluesky. Trust no poll. Trust no pundit. Vote early if you can. Vote in person if you can.

My grandpa was a pot farmer and made his owm moonshine too. Man, Oregon was wild in the 1960s. Anyway, my dad has a story about my grandpa burning his eyebrows off with a particularly volatile spoon test. I’m sure moonshine returning will be totally fine

WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court agrees to review Reconstruction-era ban on distilling spirits in private homes.

Oh man, that’s sad. Richard Riehle was a prolific character actor, it’s take all day to recount how many things I love included him in the cast. His appearance was always a delight. Particularly as Picard’s alternate life’s BFF, Batai, in “The Inner Light.”

Will Harris@willharrisinva.bsky.social

I’m so very sad to hear about the passing of the wonderfully mustachioed character actor Richard Riehle. He was a delightful guy and I had the honor and pleasure of interviewing him twice, but we were also Facebook friends and traded many messages and comments over the years.

I didn’t have an SNES growing up. So I couldn’t have Mario Kart. I had Mario Kart at home. This was the Mario Kart at home (it was actually great and I still love it)

Happy Anniversary to Wacky Wheels! On this day in 1994, Apogee brought animal powered kart racing to MS-DOS PCs!

And people wonder why I wanna just give up and log off forever. Oh, how I would if I could

Apparently the hot new rationalization in pissy right-wing creator circles as to why they're not as financially or culturally successful as they ought to be is that their IQs are all 30 points too high for the normies to understand their creations, and, oh, honey, I assure you, that's so not it

Why call it "Chromatchik"? It's a portmanteau of "Chroma" meaning color, "Match", and... well, "Magic". There is no "magic" system in the game, it's not a fantasy. There is a sense of wonder in "the zone" of puzzle games. Getting lost in the trance of it all. That's the magic; the colorful magic.

DeusTex@deustex.itch.io

A peek into what's cooking. Decided to stop being a chaos goblin and use Notion to properly plan, execute, and document my design of my next game. Chromatchik is a block pushing/matching puzzler in Love2d. Inspired by classic puzzlers. Pre-production ended yesterday, production is officially begun.

My city's subreddit posted a pic of a Nazi fuck driving his Nazi truck casually down the highway here with literal swastika bumper stickers, Nazi slogans, death threats, and antisemitic messages on it. Like guy is just driving this shit in broad daylight around hundreds of cars. I hate everything.

He *is* helping to pay for it himself... by insisting their bribery go to the ballroom instead of his pocket directly as usual. Fucking snakes all the way down.

James Downie@jamescdownie.bsky.social

"A list obtained by The Washington Post reveals all the major donors to President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom project.... Tech giants Nvidia and Apple each committed $25 million....Absent from the list is Trump himself, who has said that he is helping to pay for the project."

The acid test for me is a simple one: Has my professional and/or creative life benefited in any material way from "AI," and very specifically generative "AI"? No, it hasn't. Has it been negatively impacted by the same? Yup, in a whole bunch of ways. My professional life is worse now for it.

Smart fridges hacked. AI distributed inferences across toasters and TVs. Data collection, privacy violation. Will Adama was right. Networking is a mistake. A vulnerability that we all just casually let into our homes and lives. I only have 2 smart TVs and I'm going to sever their internet access.

No, actually, they cannot do this.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "They want to cut your children. It's unbelievable what they do. Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes home in three days as Janet, and they don't even ask you. They can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want. Minnesota is one of those states."

Truly. And that's exactly why my current game project is intentionally *colorful* as *fuuuuuuuuck*. In fact, my games are gonna be all color and whimsy from here on out for the foreseeable future

I already don’t buy anything on Epic Games. I have found their business practices abhorrent. But now they’re vibe coding the new version of their launcher and if I could boycott them any more than I already do, I would

Finally fixed the touch controls issue on iPhone. Well, that was an experience. Next up, gotta build the mechanics I did not port over from my old Pico-8 game.
